Guys and girls,

I pay my XR insurance quarterly ('cos I can't budget for :spoton: ), but last month when I went in to pay, I was assured it wasn't due until January as there had been a double payment. The lady took great pains to assure me that I was covered until then.

Imagine my shock when I get a letter in the mail today telling me that my policy had expired due to 'non-payment'. :glad:

It turns out that the office was wrong and that I was indeed "at fault" for not paying when it was due.

So, I have just spent the last 20 minutes renewing the thing and carrying over the details. I expressed my dismay at the circumstances that may have occured if:

- I'd had an accident or the vehicle was stolen in the last month

- I didn't receive the letter I got today and something happened before January

... however, although I got an apology, it was basically my fault as I believed that a payment was due and didn't pay it. I should have got it in writing.

So, be warned, IF IN DOUBT: Check your insurance is valid and current!

PS: $221.80 for 3 months - 60% NCB and 'Advantage Driver' policy on a May 2003, as in the signature below.

Its pretty scary when you think of what could have happened hey, as you said though you should have gotten it in writing that's the only way to cover yourself.

When I bought my Turbo I wasn't allowed to have the keys from the dealer until I could prove it was insured. I had the whole lot organised, all paperwork faxed and sent off and they said it was ok to have the car.

Four weeks later I ring the insurance to ask them about mods and they didn't know who I was and had no record of me having any insurance with them. As you could imagine the sh*t hit the fan. I had all the paper work to prove I had insurance and they said it didn't exist.

So I was 22 and unisured in a $40,000 car. Wonderful, way to go and wreck my life for me.

They tried to offer me all sorts of dsicounts and crap to actually start a policy with them, but after that heart stopper I went to Just Cars where it was cheaper and have unlimited mods :spoton:

No I just have to have a couple of grand spare each year to keep it current :nono:

I just get my insurance paid monthly. Got the yearly renewal a while back and it just said that the monthly payments will continue, unless I decide to change things. Pretty simple really. Saves me from running around etc. I did check my bank statement and yes they continue to take money out :)
