As well as if you are buying a manual the mk2 has the 6 speed.I think this is the selling factor for me, the resale as by the time I will sell it (3-4-5 years time after getting it) I'm sure the mark 1's will have a very bad reputation.. I base this on the current problems people are having with markI's Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/14149-want-to-buy-xr6t-what-should-i-look-for/page/2/#findComment-190768 Share on other sites

I base this on the current problems people are having with markI'sMk2 will always look better on paper but there is still no guarantee that you won`t encounter any of the old problems or any of the new problems that may turn up. Be it a supplier problem, quality problem etc. As I have said I have been very lucky and do feel for people that are currently having problems (would sign any petition organsied.) But don`t flame me for saying this but aren`t most of the problems more to do with the suppliers not supplying better quality parts ie. diff clunk, brake shudder.Ford really needs to get off their asses and stick up for there customers and get the suppliers to pull their finger out. I guess what Ford are trying to avoid is a large customer recall , because they would be admitting there cars arenot good enough. markxr6t Member 476 Member For: 20y 6m 17d Location: Perth WA Posted 24/11/04 06:48 AM Share Posted 24/11/04 06:48 AM I agree doublek!Ford quality (and Expensive Daewoo for that matter) won't immediately rival Honda or Subaru because of a Mark II upgrade. This upgrade is mainly for marketing purposes. As for resale, a month ago I bought an 11/03 Blueprint XR6T Manual with premium sound, tint, towpack and Ford Roof racks and 18600kms for $35800 (ex Customs - how do I get a job with them!). I could have waited for a Mk2 and with fleet discount paid $42000 (plus an extra $1000 for onroads here in WA). Whilst in percentage terms they'll depreciate the same, in $$$$ terms my 03 T will depreciate less - and lets face it its all about dollars! As far as problems, its good knowing the history and previous warranty claims if any when buying 2nd hand. I always check the trip meter. My car's trip meter said something like 4000km, 45kmhr avge speed and 13.3l/100km. This means it was driven very gently - I can't get under 15.5!I'm already resigned to having some minor issues - that's often part of owning a Ford or Holden (driveline clunking at this stage) but I love driving it. My other car is a Subaru Forester 2yo 50000km without as much as a rattle and vastly superior fit, finish and quality materials.Summary? I love my T and so will you!Mark Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/14149-want-to-buy-xr6t-what-should-i-look-for/page/2/#findComment-190818 Share on other sites

It is a gem and my pride and joy. I would recommend it to anybody. If I was buying right now, I would buy a Mark 1. Why?? The pricing on runout models is unbelieveably good, and if you were buying the SSS, you wouldnt notice the differnce. Go get one, NOW. Mines a May 2003 and its a bloody amazing machine. As far as resale value I dont care as I will be keeping mine for a very long time. They are just that good. There are some problems and weather they will effect every car in the future I dont know. I do feel for the guys who have had problems but there are a lot of us that havent had any problems so I think you do need to think about that!!! What I do know is that its the most fantastic car I have ever owned and I would get one if I was you.Good luck and go the XR 6 Turbo. vdeknock Member 21 Member For: 20y 6m 15d Posted 26/11/04 05:13 AM Share Posted 26/11/04 05:13 AM I have a Feb 04 build, which I purchased this month. So far no problems, just been in for the first service. They picked up a minor coolent leak but otherwise no diff noise, I cant get the thing to overboost (might not be trying hard enough). By the time I hit +4000 rpm I am way over the speed limit - need to find a road with a higher speed limit to give it a real push. Will say the car likes a drink cant get the avg below 15l/100km.The only difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 is the 6 speed manual, in my case I have the auto and no difference apart from minor trim and colour. If you do buy look for the upgraded sound. In terms of cost the car was 6mths old, upgraded sound, sunroof, mud flaps, XR foot carpet and an extra 4 years warranty - I save ~$13 - $15,000 from new. Which if you purchase a new Mk2 you will also likely lose, I wont drop any where near this amount (I hope!)
