dynowog, thanks as I thought to melt a piston normal driving wont blow the engine only thrasin thanks that clears it up my mate keep telling himself it was the airflow metre and the previous guy did thrash it to blow, he says the guy said he cruise it which is bull sh*t I thought well if that makes him fell better

l have read of several cases of the AFM going bad in the old shape WRX's and causing a meltdown.

Try posting on the WRX forums if you want more detailed info but from what l've read, its a known issue.

mondie I said that in my post already!!!

to be specific its the 99-2000 with the bolt in afm that causes trouble but also as mentioned above for all models! :w00t2::pics:

yes the faulty AFM not only causes a lean condition but also gives the engine more timing than it is supposed to have because it thinks the load is less than what it really is hence more timing where less is required. Bad combination, causes extremely high cylinder temps.
