Guest FatBAt Guests Posted 18/06/07 09:38 AM Share Posted 18/06/07 09:38 AM I think the supplier would have rocks in his head to not cover it for warrantee given that you may buy 40 of these units. You have been asked by the supplier to review it. Define the word review! It no way suggests that you cannot open the case. You are reviewing the unit....inside and out. This will obviously only be the case if you are reviewing hardware and not software. If it is software, you have no need to open the unit. Some units have a sticker "void if removed or torn" over the top and bottom of the unit. If it did, it's a different story if you didn't ask the question before you removed it. If it didn't, then there is no legal problem.Cheers

I removed some screws to allow me to open the undercasing to have a look inside to alow me to complete the review for them, I handed it in and we have now been charged for the laptop because warranty had been voided by my actions.I'll have a look to see if the unit has any stickers as you mentioned but I think I would have paused if I noticed any. Thanks..
Guest FatBAt Guests Posted 19/06/07 05:55 AM Share Posted 19/06/07 05:55 AM Can I ask what supplier this is. Why I ask is because like you said, if you want to install new ram, who is to do it. Obviously they can't because it voids the warrantee from their suppliers. It seems a little fishy to me. It seems he has taken your possibility of buying 40 units with a grain of salt. He wants a quick easy sale of one unit.I certainly wouldn't be paying for it. Hands Down! Ask him where does it state that you cannot open the case. Warantees in Australia cannot be made on assumptions. It has to state categorically what it covers and more importantly what it doesn't.Even a warrantee that says an item is not covered if misused....has to define what is regarded as misuse. A warantee might read something like this...Misuse: The item will not be covered under this warrantee if it is found to be used for something other than its' intended use or has been misused. This means absolutely nothingIf it containedMisuse is (but not limited to) being dropped, overheated,...... This is explaining clearly what it doesn't cover. The term but not limited to is the be all to end all. It is their saviour. If the customer doesn't ask the shop proprietor what that means, then you are leaving a big gap in your legal rights. My son had a car amp fitted to his car and one of his speakers blew up. The guy in the shop said it wasn't covered because he turned it up too loud. I said show me in the warantee where it says that. He pointed to misuse and I said where does it say not to turn it up too loud....Long story short....the speaker was replaced....twice.Stick by your guns and don't take sh!t.Cheers

A new default gateway is introduced to the DHCP settings (scope options not server options). The old default gateway is pushed down to be the secondary gateway. All clients receive the settings but after five minutes, checking via ipconfig reveals that the clients have lost the setting of the new default gateway, and have reverted back to the old default gateway (now the secondary). Rebooting just replicates the problem, while a release/renew just starts the cycle again. Setting there, then not there. There is only one DHCP server in the network.Any ideas? Background info... the office is in an area where adsl is not available, so we have satellite. This is very expensive. We are trialling unwired but because the signal is not that strong (reliable) we need all VPN traffic to run through the satellite, while all other traffic runs out of the unwired - hence the new default gateway. Any thoughts?GrantHave to try to nail it down to local clients or the DHCP server. Also what OS is on the clients?Do the computers function normally on the new gateway IP, or do they revert as soon as u try to access the internet? If they do function normally on the new gateway IP I would make a trial one and install only the new gateway IP and see how long that machine functions for. let me know how it goes and I'll see what I can think of then.. a lot of these issues require trial and error to resolve and is extremely hard via relayed msg's :D

Obviously two defaults are impossible for the computer to understand. Are you defining routes for different Internet addresses via each gateway using the route commands? Can you main gateway router handle the re-direct for your clients? What I mean is, have one router as the gateway for all clients and have it know which way to route the traffic.??Cheers,AzzIts not 2 default gateways, its a primary and secondary as always and he is using windows server 2003 as a DHCP server not a router. And yes I know the data is being routed anyway but I don't think routing is an issue here.:D
