That is what I meant about it never working for me. That's as far with the "repair" function as I could get.

Sorry aniken. No other options that I am aware of other than re-install. That is certainly 1 thing that Win98 has over XP. If you reinstalled over the old, it just repaired all the corrupt files. XP's only options is quick or full format

Cheers

If there is no password just press enter..by default it always asks for a password even if there is none.

I have used the XP repair function several times and 9/10 it works just how it should.. the 1/10 times I guess its just so screwed that MS can't make head nor tail of it.

It wants to at the very least low level format before it reinstalls itself.

Low level formats on drives haven't been done in many many moons. ;)

Now you mention it, I haven't heard that term since Noah played fullback for Jerusalam :spoton: .......I meant format (high level) but I'm sure you knew what I meant

Are you running a firewall? It may have blocked access to that browser? For whatever reason. I am not familiar with Firefox.

Cheers

Ive got the Bloodhound.W32 virus. At first it crashed my computer and on restarting it, it wouldnt load my desktp so I couldnt do anything. I got round that and ran Norton Anti-virus which found I was riddled with this virus. Ive since re-started and now when I log in, it immediately logs me back out so I again cant do anything.

Ive tried safe mode and it logs me out of that as well. Ive also restored my computer back to a later date and nothing.

WINXP computer. Any suggestions apart from a format. Years of work is on there as usual.

Ive considered putting the hard drive into another computer to see if that computer can fix it????????????

I.B.

you could take your hard drive out and put it in another machine and then do a virus / spyware scan with a new scanner (updated definitions) or you could put the windows XP CD in the drive and do a repair installation and that would probably get it to boot again, then do a virus and spyware scan (with updated definitions) in safe mode, after you have disabled system restore (right click my computer - somewhere in there disable system restore) and then you should be good to go.

to do a repair installation - this will probably work. <--- better option

boot the CD, get to the screen that says, to repair xp with the rocovery console press R - DONT DO THAT

press enter, and you will be able to then select the hard drive partition with XP on it to install to

instead of pressing ENTER on the partion that contains the windows installation, press R on your keyboard (there will be no text telling you to do this)

then follow the prompts, it will reinstall the windows back end, and recover the registry to pretty much standard, might have a few problems with some external (non windows) programs, just re-install those programs.

you have to boot windows xp with the exact version CD that you installed it with.

so you cant use Pro on a home computer, you have to use the Windows XP Home CD on a windows XP Home computer to do the repair etc. and it also has to have the same service pack files, so if you have service pack 2 on your computer, which you probably will have, you need an xp service pack 2 windows xp disk.

maybe just take it to a repair shop heheheh.

What treo have you got? I know the 750 is quad band, which will give you access in most places for voice...depends on which country though I guess. :stirthepot:

Not 100% sure on data sorry.
