About two weeks ago, the friendly people at iinet started 'shaping' my peak connection speed because my quota of 2GB had been exceeded. I checked the usage stats, and I think someone has been hi-jacking my wireless router, and downloading stuff (eg, hundreds of MB downloaded when I'm not even home). Anyway, I immediately changed some of the default wireless settings, and I think that has stopped. The problem is, certain sites I used to visit now don't load at all, or are still really, really slow, even though the 'shaping' has been removed. This happened after I changed some things in my router (eg, SSID, login password, turned off broadcast of my wireless access point etc.), but I don't understant why only certain sites won't work now (smh, anz being two examples), yet others are back to normal.

Any hints, geeks?

Such a way with words. :stupid:

The changes you've mentioned would have no bearing on slowing down only certain websites. I'd suggest that you went randomly clicking buttons in the router settings and completely farked it. If all else fails do a hard reset and start again....just make sure you've got all your account and connection settings noted down first.

Otherwise it could be websites with flash content - totally unrelated problem if that’s the case.

Bloody amateurs. :tonguepoke:

Hi computer Gurus

Hey I have a problem with my network and was wondering if anyone could help

Basically I used to be able to run my laptop thru a wireless network from the main computer, which is connected to the router.

the problem is I think I have recently instaled nortons 360 and I can not seem to access the network drive no more.

Internet on the laptop has not been affected, I just cant access any of my files on my Main computer, there is another desktop in this network, it however does not have 360 and can access the network drive.

So I am thinking is it the firewall in norton 360??? I have tried to turn it of on the main computer but to no avail..

Gonna try to turn off the firewall on the laptop now as soon as it restarts.

Kind of getting annoyed :spoton:

So thanks to anyone who can help me!

Hey fellas, just thought I would share this program with you. I've only just read some of the previous posts, anyway it's Freeware and has worked exceptionally well for me.

Regseeker

It's great for stopping or deleting start-up entries, got a few windows tweaks and can auto-clean your registery. Even has a back-up function. Give it a go and let me know what you think.

no adware of things like that?

no tricks?

sorry, paranoid with these things now, still don;t have my other computer fixed from them.

No ad-ware, spyware etc. It's honestly the best freeware program I have come across.

Anyone out know of a decent and quick program to encode DVD to AVI files. I want to encode alll my futurama dvds, family guys dvds etc. I'm sick of the ones I've downloaded off torrent, Futurama was 14gb and video sizes and quality vary. And what codec and other settings do you recommend I encode each episode in. I've got about 1.5TB left to play with so I'd be happy to encode each episode at about 350mb.
