If you don't have a Windows key on your keyboard, you can use the keys Ctrl then Esc to bring up the start menu in Windows.

Cool - Thanks for that one, I kinda spilt a beer on my keyboard (some bad words were said when I woke up :spoton: and I'm stuck with an old crappy thing - - way to tight to get off my ass and buy a new one.

You can always take it appart and clean it in water, then let it dry for a few days and put it back together, depending on what type of keyboard it is you wouldn't damage it anymore then it is now and if you do, you've lost nothing.

Turn on your firewall

Microsoft included a firewall in Windows XP to keep you safe from hackers while you cruise the Internet. How do you know that the Internet Connection Firewall is on? Go to the Control Panel and double-click the Network Connections icon. In the dial-up, DSL, or cable connection dialog that appears, check the Status column. If your firewall is on, it should say Firewalled. You can turn the firewall off with the check box, but unless you are going to add a third-party firewall for heightened security, it's best to leave it on.

Now that you know that your firewall is on, how do you know that it's doing its job? Test it with ShieldsUp, the free testing service sponsored by Gibson Research. XP's Internet Connection Firewall kept the computer in full stealth mode. Hackers could not break in and couldn't even see the computer online.

But, given the latest security problems with USB 2.0, etc, you should always go to Windows Update to make sure you have the latest patches, no matter what operating system you use.

Anyone know of a free proxy I can download through without signing up?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

There are heaps of them. Search on google for words like

open anonymous proxies

Some sites have lists of hundreds that are open and available to use. Be aware that some proxies pass on your info in certain fields to websites whilst others do not. The same sites often have test pages where you can test if the proxy is anonymous: the page will display everything that the webserver could get from your PC, so if you see your real IP address or similar there, you know you arent surfing anonymously.

In addition to this, when entering any details into a non secure web site or program, it is a good idea to enter in fake details especially a fake email so you don’t get bombarded with spam. If they need a valid email to send you your password, registration number, ect apply for one of those free email addresses like hotmail that will be there for what you need and will be automatically deleted after a few months of not using it.

Bought a netgear wireless modem/router today. Got it working ok, but then I tried to change something on the security settings. Now I can't connect to it, or login to it to even change anything. I tried the reset button on the back of the router, but I still can't get back in. Any suggestions?
