Great help everyone.. now for the last question.

If the Navman 4410 is mounted under the dash somewhere, do I need an external arial?

Where is the best place to buy it from and how much???????

thanks

David

the 4410 has its own antenna & usually doesnt have a problem unless you have a heated winshield or reflective tinted windshield.

I can sell them to members for around $725

another good option is the 'pin', basically is a suited pda all ready to go specially for navman

$683 from DSE (I got mine from DSE Chullora - Sydney)

$645 from www.mrgadget.com.au (free postage for Mtekk forum members - Melb)

Google also brings up:

$649 from www.oblis.com.au (Bris)

$660 from www.calculatorking.com.au (Melb)

$599 from www.chsmith.com.au (Melb)

$665 from www.expansys.com.au (Melb)

I'm not a huge fan of the aerial since according to the documentation it needs to be mounted OUTSIDE the car on a metallic surface. :gooff:

The basic rule is the unit needs an un-obstructed view of the sky. Using the suction-cup windscreen mount is the best way to do it, and makes it easy for you to turn it off when you aren't using it. Still , it comes down to your own personal preferences.....

Thanks again guys, the way I envisage my setup will be to have the Navman out of site under the dash somwhere with a permanent power source off the battery.

So, will I need an ariel?

and the can anyone suggest a permanent bracket for it so the IPAQ is close to my left hand when driving on the dash... maybe with power and cradle type setup?

thanks again, this site is just so damn helpfull all the time, you guys rock! :gooff:

I've posted info on Arkon kits earlier in this thread....

See post #8

I would probably think that you will need an aerial if you mount it out of sight inside the dash. You might want to ask "XR8 Ute" to post some photos of where and how he hides his GPS receiver, as well as how strong the GPS signal is (typical number of satellites visible and those with signal lock).

Sorry I haven't got around to taking pics yet, I have been busy the last couple of days.

I use an Arkon mount and it is fantastic. As for the gps receiver, that is mounted in the hole where the passenger airbag would be with no external aerial needed.

If you pull the airbag cover off you will see a big black intrusion bar and just cable tie the receiver to the top of that bar. That way the receiver will almost be touching the underside of the dash with only the top of the dash between it and the window.

Sat signals are only a a bit weaker but it still works fine.

This all sounds great, what is the mapping software like that comes with the Navman 4410?

XRDreaming> Does the airbag cover just pull off?
