My car used a few litres of oil up until about 6000kms. My car has now done 9800kms and has not used a single drop since then. I am using Castrol Magnatec 15W40.

Dont worry just yet. It should however cease to use oil by 10k though.

Had the same till about 7500kms then it stopped and hasen't used a drop since. Currently 60,000kms. Some motors seem to do this more than others. There are too many variables to pinpoint exactly why this is the case.

my ute (NA6) currently has 2600km's on it, but last week before I went on a trip to adelaide (abut 1700km's) I noticed my oil was just a smidge above the "ADD" line. so I topped it up with about 500ml just for the trip.

havent checked it since I got home. but yea I was surprised how much it used in just 1700km's!! kinda worried me a bit

Driving around town ,doing short trips less than 15km will show no noticable oil level change..Take the same car on a good country run and watch the level drop..

Reason is water from combustion passes the ring and gets trapped by the oil..

The temperature in the oil around town doesn't get hot enough to allow this water or small CH structured molecules to boil off..

Out on the freeway at a high sustained speed, the water and the small CH molecules are boiled off ..Check your oil again and it could show a topping up required

All efficient engines use oil... If they didn't they would wear out quite quickly

If you want to know more on this just take a look at ACL (engine components) web site..

It has a very easy explanation guide to engine componentry ,its function and design
