From the FPV site:

The F6 270 Turbo produces the highest torque output of any production-based Australian-built high-performance engine.

The engine features a 50 per cent larger twelve-core intercooler and dual entry ram airbox to create a more efficient induction system which naturally increases turbo boost pressure by 50 per cent to 0.64bar.

The engine also features revised internal parts, including high-strength valve springs and heavy-duty conrods, as well as a unique FPV oil cooler to ensure consistent performance during enthusiastic driving.

Because of the benchmark torque output, the F6 Typhoon features a high-tech twin-plate clutch engineered and supplied by British-based motor racing experts, AP Racing. This 240mm clutch system creates more precise power delivery and increased durability for sports driving but also reduces pedal effort, therefore providing a more user-friendly manual gearbox for everyday driving.

The F6 Typhoon is the only Australian-built vehicle with a twin-plate clutch.

It also comes exclusively with the new FPV-engineered version of the Tremec T56 close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. To enhance the launch feel and initial acceleration, the F6 Typhoon has a 3.73:1 final drive ratio and unique first gear ratio.

I have driven all three and the series 2 GT is much quicker than the series 1 GT, but there is no way the series 2 GT is quicker than the Typhoon, either off the mark or accelerating at 160 kph, if it was I wouldn't have bought the Typhoon.

Interesting, I have also driven both the 6 speed GT 2 and Typhoon and I found the GT to be a quicker car and more lively car. This was one of the reasons why I bough the GT. I am wondering if you had driven the 6 speed GT or the auto.

Either way, considering yours and other peoples comments, I am going back to ford to see if I can get another test drive of the Phoon. I could have possibly had a dud on the day.

hi Rexy,

yeah you better go back and test drive the phoon again. Everyone who seems to have driven the phoon so far have praised the car more than that for the mk 2 GT. You seem to be the only one with negative comments for the Phoon. At least if you test drive it again you can confirm if the GT or Phoon is a better drive. Otherwise you might find yourself being restless while waiting for your GT, thinking about hypotheticals and stressing about if you got the best car for yourself.

Point to Point, when you're behind the wheel with a heavy foot the Typhoon wins hands down, game over GT although a mildly modded series 2 GT is gonna be a lovely piece of work 2 different cars with 2 different purposes

Vuster,

considering this is a Turbo forum, I would expect most people here would favour the phoon over the GT.

I am not negative about the phoon, I just don't think it is a better drive than the GT(only my opion). In its own right the Phoon is very good car. I wouldn;t say no to one.

Also I won't be losing any sleep if the phoon is quicker or better than the GT or vice versa. Just beacuse one is quicker than the other doesn't make the slower car any less of a car.

But one thing does surprise about your and others perception on these cars, how do you explain away the times from Wheels, Motor? FPV themselves have said the GT is quicker and faster than the Phoon.

Could it be, considering the phoon has a softer setup up front and the way the turbo comes, this is creating the illusion it is quicker. Times don't lie.

The times have been explained to you on at least a couple of occasions - try listening...

Where did you get this info from? The Typhoon shares the same front springs as the GT and actually has stiffer rear springs than the GT according the info released by FPV. Unless of course FPV are lying about this in the same way they are lying about the car's performance times. :w00t2::spoton:

How many more magazines or press have to release times for the phoon before you'll believe they are legit... :nono:

The wheels times seem fine considering the accompanying GT and Late model camira times.

The car does have less power than a phase 1 T and it's manual. Phase 1 T's are pushing mid 5's to the 100.

Heck wheels tested a phase 1 T with 235rwkw and it had 13.6 and was a manual with 5.39s to 100. The phoon wont match that. There's no way, so given that their drivers mightn't be as talented as some, their times are a fair expectation of what the car can do. But in the hands of some better drivers there are always better times to be had, but you can say this with any car.
