If only I waited a few more weeks....... <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Mick, Mick, you don't listen mate. I DID tell you that a few weeks ago. My information was that it was going to be THE big surprise at the Sydney Motor Show but something went amiss and they didn't end up doing the release. Here is the article>>>In turbo TerritoryJames Stanford05nov04A TURBO Territory has been approved by Ford Australia. The force-fed all-wheel-drive is being developed and is likely to arrive in 2006. Ford is unable to fit a V8 into the engine bay of the Territory, but desperately wants a performance model to sit above the regular 4.0-litre six-cylinder-powered model. The turbo version of the in-line six fits into the Territory engine bay, with some changes, and the AWD system is also able to handle the extra torque generated by the force-fed engine. It is not yet clear if the turbo Territory will sell as part of the regular Ford range as an XR model or if it will be part of the Ford Performance Vehicle line-up. Ford Australia will not confirm it has approved the Territory project, but senior sources say it has been given the green light and development of the vehicle is well advanced. A working prototype is being put through its paces and has shown that the turbo model will have far better acceleration than the standard Territory. Edited at 8:11pm:- THIS IS THE CAR I WAS LED TO BELIEVE WAS GOING TO BE AT THE SHOW FPV managing director David Flint will not say whether or not the turbo Territory has been approved, but does leave the door open for the model to join the FPV line-up. Asked if there was room for a turbo Territory in the FPV garage in the future, Flint replied: "I think there is. The Territory was a bit of a shock to everyone. It's an astonishingly good car. It looks like an SUV (all-terrain wagon), it drives like a regular sedan." Flint says there is no reason to suggest a turbo six-cylinder Territory would not be a success, especially given the popularity of the regular model. "If I'm right about six-cylinder and its attractiveness and if I'm also right that the best target for a niche (FPV) car is a volume (Ford) donor car, then you can work it out for yourself," Flint says. He says FPV does not have to produce performance cars based only on Falcon sedans and utes. "I have always been about building cars people like to drive," Flint says. "They don't have to be any particular type of cars, just cars people like." Ford is not the first to develop performance versions of an all-terrain wagon. Mercedes-Benz sells a powerful AMG version of its ML off-roader and BMW has the 4.8iS X5. Edit at 8:13pm:- FPV HAVE HAD ONE OF THESE BMW X5S FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOWExpensive Daewoo Special Vehicles has released the Avalanche, which is a more powerful version of the Expensive Daewoo Adventra.
