My T is only 500 k's old and the round town fuel economy is pretty ordinary.

I noticed that when the engine is cold and presumably with the automatic choke on, the instantaneous readout when driving very sedately is in the order of 25 - 50 litres per 100 k's. The rate drops to a reasonable level after the motor is at normal operating temperature. Is this normal?

The exhaust has a fair covering of carbon at the outlet which would indicate the motor running rich. I have given the motor a few runs on the highway to try to clean it out a bit.

Thanks in advance.

They do run rich for sure but fuel economy will settle down as the car runs in. Enjoy :3gears:

3tl - I dont pay to much attention to the instant read out, I average about 14.5L/100 and get about 380k's a tank, I think that's fairly normal for the T's with a mix of about 60/40 city/highway driving.

My Fairmont according to trip computer does 11.8l/100km. That is 50/50 city highway. Avg speed is 42km/h. I am pretty happy with that considering how much power it has (NA) and how heavy it is.

Yep I think I'll forget about the economy at least until it has settled down a bit and just enjoy the car for what it is. A bloody spirited and comfortale tourer. Looking forward to a round trip of 1200 k's next weekend.

Holly sh!t! 380! I get 600! And my ute weighs more! But my average is much lower. Try adding a second air intake and K&N and watch the fuel consumption drop like dead flies.

rednut, how many litres do u get in your tank for the 600ks? remembering our full bodied sedans only run 68l tank which you can only ever get about 55 to 60 into in my experiences anyway. but we've got 14000ks and it averages about 14.5 on the trip comp and that would be 90/10 city/highway

Not in my car... ran outta fuel yesterday :beerchug:

Went about 40km past 0 DTE.

Put 67.5L in! (sedan)

Incidentally, I get around 380km from 60-65L, trip computer usually shows an average around 18L/100km, doing the math shows around 17ish.

90% "spirited" city driving (in Canberra), with 3500km on the clock.
