Intercooler Replacement

I've decided to start the mod's to the car, and the Intercooler is the first to come.

I'm getting Dynowog to do the work, and you'll see some of his handywork performing at the dyno day !

Here are a couple of pictures comparing the standard one with the one being fitted !

This is probably the biggest they can fit easily !

Hey Pretzel, thanks again for your help the other day with the wheels and tyres, I really appreciated it.

It looks big is it a similar size to the APS intercooler?

Whats involved with the pipework to make ti fit and what do you think the total costs will be when installed?

No problem Geea, Just a pity the offset was wrong.....

As for size, yes I believe it would probably be similar to the APS one This requires no modifications to the car, but any larger starts to mean things like the connectors on the Air-Con condenser need to be moved (Which is an option Dynowog has, and we attempted to dummy it up, I just didn't want the hassle of getting the piping moved for the Air-Con) I think I have a picture comparing the three I'll look for.

The piping will be made up by them to remove the crossover, but I don't really know exactly where things will run, my understanding is that the original rubber hose on the drivers side will remain, and a custom pipe from the throttle body down to the front passenger side will be fabricated.

As for costs, I think I'll leave Dynowog to respond to that side of things, as this is the first of this sort of intercooler they have fitted to a T they are not able to give me a figure yet. But I will say that from other work I have had done by them, it will be well fitted, and extremely good value for money !

how is it plumbed back to the intake, is it via the original plumbing??

yep there will be 2 options both with bar and plate cores.

the driver side hose will remain std for low boost applications and there will be a stainless one for higher boost levels.

the passenger side being stainless too not to different to macka's pipe

price dont know and probibly not allowed to say here anyway

will be ready and know by d/day so ask me there if you like?

How come the IC inlet and outlet arnt offset like the stockie???

How good would it work,air strait in,then strait out,not flowing through the whole thing

Or are the side tanks tricked up???

Do you need to modify the wastegate with this unit?

This is only my thoughts on how it will flow through the cooler, so if anyone knows better what happens, then please correct me !

Yes there will be some air flowing straight through the cooler, but the volume of air being passed through the cooler would mean that the air will be distributed across the entire core, because the air will travel the least restricted path. If the lower channels are already full of air it will have to then use the upper portion of the cooler ?

I'd guess at idle and low rpm, it would possibly be mainly straight through (But by the time the cooler is really needed at higher RPM/Boost it will be distributed across the entire cooler)

As I sid that is only my guess as to what will happen, and I did not look into the end tank to see if there was any trick stuff in there (I'd guess not though !)

I am pretty sure the upgrades offered from APS, NIZPRO etc also have the inlet and outlets at the same level !

I don't know myself about brand, Dynowog should be able to answer that for us, It looks very nice in real life though !

No at this stage we had only dummied up the cooler to sort out mounting brakets etc.. We will be able to test pressure differences once it is all in I imagine ?

I'm not sure why we would need to modify the wastegate when we fit a bigger/better intercooler? but no we have no plans to modify the wastegate (Well at least not just yet, and not for the intercooler upgrade !)
