Yeah, though it isn't the best way to do it, like all the guys have said, amping after market speakers is easy as, you just tap into the wires and amp the signal.

Also, I heard there was some form of remote or sub pre out on the standard head unit as well as premium. Can anyone confirm this?

Ahh..... and yes the other problem would be the amp remote connection. Dont want the amp on at all time for no reason.

You could just wire the remote connection into the accessories circuit. Then it would turn on with the key. Or even to a switch so you can turn it on manually. I usually like this option because you can turn the subs off if there is someone in your car you dont want to let know that you have a stereo.

I would wire it to accessories, then put a switch in line if you liked that idea...

That is of course unless the deck has a remote wire!!

I just had a look in the boot of my car and found some interesting plugs that are not used. I pulled the trim down that covers the rear speakers and on the left there are two plugs. One big yellow one and a small white one. I am pretty sure that in the Premium sound that the amp is on the left hand side of the boot?? Could these be the plugs for the factory amp?? Hrrrmmmm....

Got a CD burner and willing to waste a CD?

Got a multimeter?

If so, downlaod some sort of tone generator, produce a wave file that has for, say, 1 minute a sound wave of frequency 50 hz, then a minute later change this to say, 80, minute later, about 110 (avoid hitting octaves).

Then stick this into your car, and put a multimeter to it. You can pretty much test every stereo input and output this way and get a fair reading on exactly whats going on....

I dunno if this can be done any other way, but I know a few people who do this to test various things. I don't see how it wouldn't work here either.

Only costs you about 2 dollars (cost of a CD) to do as well :P

Ive got a wiring diagram for the stock amp. The red wire in the loom is used to turn the amp on. I'm going to try using that wire for my stereo, so I can retain keyless play.

Its a pitty though that the amp recieves a mono signal. If it recieved a stereo signal and then combined it for a mono signal for the sub, we could use these outputs without the need of a hi-lo level converter. For those who are interested, the wire is the yellow wire inside the shielded loom. The shield is the -ve for the signal. BUT make sure you use the right yellow wire. There is another yellow wire and that is to power the amp. They should be noticably thicker.

Hey guys,

I am a Expensive Daewoo man through and through. . .that's even after having my parents owned 4 different BA Falcons - but after going in a serious drive with my 18 yro brother in an XR6, I loved it and well...he's buying it ! (not bad for a P plater eh?).

Now he currently has about 4 grand worth of after market sound system tied up in his VS Late model camira which works fine in that. . .but with the BA it has a 1 piece centre board, So...

He has the basic 2 subs, headunit, splits, speakers, etc.

A) how could he install the headunit and would it work properly?

B) if he can't, would the stock headunit run the 2 subs well or at all? They're Rockford Fosgate Punche's.

He does not have premium sound package, how much is this package?

Cheers

Ofcourse you can upgrade the sound, don't listen to anyone on here (exceptme ofcourse). I have 800 watt separate stereo inmy ute, it went in just fine. My headunit looks excellent, and not out of place, it has a colour screen and I matched it to the same blue as the dash.

I have 6.5" splits MB Quartz in the front doors, they go stright in, no cutting or drilling. I have 2 400 watt kenwood amps on the back wall of the cab and a 12" JL sub. The standard stereo is still in the car, it still turns on and operates, but no speakers are connected to it (its a piece of Sh!t anyway). When I sell the ute, it all comes out and the fctory sutff is reconnected and no one will ever know it was in there.

The only casualty is the tissue holder which is cut and modified to hold a single DIN headunit, and you can get a new one from ford for very little to replce the cut one if you rmove it.

Enjoy! :beerchug:
