Hey guys,

I am a Expensive Daewoo man through and through. . .that's even after having my parents owned 4 different BA Falcons - but after going in a serious drive with my 18 yro brother in an XR6, I loved it and well...he's buying it ! (not bad for a P plater eh?).

Now he currently has about 4 grand worth of after market sound system tied up in his VS Late model camira which works fine in that. . .but with the BA it has a 1 piece centre board, So...

He has the basic 2 subs, headunit, splits, speakers, etc.

A) how could he install the headunit and would it work properly?

B) if he can't, would the stock headunit run the 2 subs well or at all? They're Rockford Fosgate Punche's.

He does not have premium sound package, how much is this package?

Cheers

As far as l know you can't upgrade to a premium sound after you have bought the car, and for the system he has got do a search on Stereo systems and you'll find there is quite a few threads covering the topic

Matty,

You will find that you won't have much luck integrating his speakers with the current Ford system (even with the Premium Sound amp).

It will be fine to install the head unit, but, it will look pretty out of place and DO NOT drill anything into the ICC as it can cause damage.

eXtreme, its quite easy to intergrate the speakers he has with the factory headunit. I'm assuming there is an amplifier to run the speakers.

One of these babies will do the trick nicely. 13 band EQ and has a high to low level converter made especially for integrating the factory headunit with aftermarket amplifiers. They are pricey though, but a good investment. I have one waiting to go into my car. Jaycar also sell a high-low level converter for about 30 bucks, but I've never had any experience with that product to tell you if its any good or not. Various manufacturers make them, and if you go to a reputable car audio store, they should be able to help you out, and suggest a unit. Avoid the normal chain store type shops. Speak to someone who has an idea and knows what they're talking about!

Oh if you didn't know, the high-low level converter hooks up to your speaker wires. You tap into it, say the back ones which are easy to get to(although you might lose the fading ability then), and then the other end goes straight to the amp. Job done.

Matty,

Not a problem with the system, I took out the factory amp and replaced with a larger unit to run my 15" sub.

I was suprised to find that the factory amp did not control my speakers at all, all it did was the factory sub.

Further more, I used a speaker cable to rca convertor for my amp conections and there she goes.

Personally, I havent played with the std speakers as of yet because they still do what I need them to do, so I cant comment much on that.

Does anyone know if the Prestige system has an aditional output for the sub (like the Premium does)?? I have the Prestige system in my Fairmont and can run the speakers through a 4ch amp using the "High Level Input" on the amp (speaker wire out of back of head unit plug straight into amp). I was wondering if I did this where I could get an output from for an additional amp such as a Mono Block to run some subs?? Do the head units have an aditional output that is not used even in the Prestige system??

Cheers!!

I doubt it would. It's the same as standard sound only with a 6 stacker

Glenn it also has the full size screen. :spoton:

I could also use a line converter, high to low, then split the back speaker line with 1 to 2 RCA leads and use one for the speaker amp and the other for the mono block or 2ch for subs. Will look into this as it seems fairly easy to do!

Only problem is finding some good 5x7s to replace the factory speakers. Splits in the front and some 2ways in the back. I know Alpine make some type S 5x7 splits but not sure about the rear. But they are expensive due to the odd size! :nono:
