After my geforce 4 sh*t itself during the bushfired that scorched my area I need to buy a new video card, casue at the moment I am borrowing a friends ATI something 32 meg card.

I am planning on getting a GeForce-6 6800 GT and was after some opinions from any hardware gurus out there on these cards. Is it a good card? or is there a better option out there?

I am planning to spend around $600-$700 on a video card, so I dont have to upgrade for a while.

Doesn't look like there are many IT geeks reading this at the moment....you could always try whirlpool.net.au, and you will probably get several dozen responses.

Maaaaate!!

:censored:

If I had the cash, I'd go one of these.

Staying true to nVidia. Ati, never trusted them, never will. :censored: :censored:

Albatron 6800 GT

Currently I only have a Albatron 5700 Ultra 128MB DDR3. Does the job.

I just read a hardeware review in the latest hyper magazine about the latest Nvidia and ATI cards. The Nvidia cards are the best of the bunch out of the latest batch of graphics cards, I spose that will change again next time though.

Looks like the 6800 GT it is then.

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro.. 128 MB.. lovin every minute of it.. no hassles at all.. my mate has the 256 MB version and it is even better..

Although apparently the top of the line now is the ATI X800.... I used to be a NVIDIA fan but I cant complain about the ATI

I have been told by a few nerdy guys at work, and it was mentioned in the article I read, that the best card cycles from release to release. Like, ATI is best one time, then Nvidia is better when the next ones come out, so on so forth. I dont know enough about them to have an opinion on whos better though. All I know is that the Nvidia is quite a bit better this time round.

Any of the latest cards from either ATI or nVidia camp will do you very nicely for a while to come.

If I had the $$$ right now, I'd be spending it on an ATI Radeon X800 XT.

In the not too distant future however, I'd be getting a PCI express motherboard and two nVidia GeForce 6-6800 GT SLIs.

But this of course all depends on your cash supplies.

If you're aiming at $600-$700, then I'd go for an X800 Pro.
