Point of order

British drivers who exceed speed limits by 20-30 percent will receive lower fines and have fewer licence points deducted than at present under a more balanced penalty system proposed by government ministers. The mooted system would help offset mounting criticism that British motorists are little more than a revenue source.

Warning sign

The Association of British Drivers has called on the government to replace speed cameras with electronic warning signs after a study found that warning systems do far more for road safety. The study showed that while speed cameras are claimed to reduce crashes by 14 percent, electronic speed limit reminders reduce crashes by 58 percent.

Sounds like we should try this here, especially the latter.

Ok, so they reduce revenue through reduced fines....so in order to balance the books, they'll increase tax on petrol.

As for the electronic speed reminders...

The more cameras the better, less tax I have to pay, dumb speeding gumbys,go ahead and pay, other wise dont speed, simple!!!

I havent been pinged in 20 years. My sons 21,18,never been pinged...Do it on the track!!!

You obviously don't live in Victoria. Although I personally have never been caught by a speed camera, I despise the fact that the government can ping me for 3km/h over for choosing to scan the road ahead and maintain safe behaviour rather then be fixated on the speedo.

Cheers,

Chris

Lets get real here!!!!

Everyone does speed at one time or another!

If anyone says they have never speeded , then they are full of sh*t!

Its a matter of when and where you get caught and that's why SPEED CAMERAS are such an easy source of revenue!!!!!

Just go with the flow of other traffic going 5km over the limit, BANG YOU ARE GONE!!!!!!

Why would you bother having the police force trying to solve crimes, break and enters, etc????? One police officer can pull hundreds of fines in 1 shift behind a speed camera!!!!!! (very profitable) :sofa:

Put a policeman behind a speed camera and you have heaps of incoming taxes.

BEFORE ALL YOU MORAL CRIMEFIGHTERS RESPOND, LET ME SAY SOMETHING ELSE!!!!!!!!

A SPEED CAMERA FINE only pisses people off, it does not slow people down,If someone passed a speed camera at 100kph in a 60zone and 2 mins down the road

they smashed into my family and killed them, I would sue the police department for failing to take action to prevent this driver from speeding.Yeah, as if a speed camera fine after the event would slow anyone down!

NOW there is nothing better than getting pulled over for speeding (by an actual police officer)because you know straight away " sh*t I WAS SPEEDING " im gone.

The fine and detterent is immediate and makes you think about it and alter YOUR BEHAVIOUR STRAIGHT AWAY.

Since speed cameras came out think about police presence on our roads!

I reckon it has basically halved. Not a good thing at all.

Seing a police car on the road is like putting A CAT AMONGST THE PIGEONS.

a good thing!!!!!!!!

SORRY ABOUT THE LONG RANT!!!!!!!

BUT SPEED CAMERAS ARE NOTHING BUT REVENUE!!!!!!

LETS SEE MORE SPEED TRAPS TO "CATCH YOU DOING THE CRIME" INSTEAD OF REVENUE RAISING CAMERAS!!!!!!,WHICH HAVE NO DETTERENT VALUE.

I FEEL BETTER NOW(DONT START ME)

Dude, take a pill, have a lie down or something.

You won't make many friends by bagging out coppers on this forum.

Most speed cameras are operated by private contractors or public servants and not police any way.

I agree though that speed cameras are mostly just a revenue raiser, not a crime deterrent, hence the article I posted.
