Just come in from a cruise tonight through the hills around Adelaide and four cars on the cruise experienced overboost,3 are modified and 1 is not.2 of the 3 modified cars suffered repeated overboost before modification. An APS improved car no longer has a previous overboost problem.

I wonder if the essential staff/upper management at Geelong drive turbos. My wife with baby in car attempted to pass a truck recently and experienced overboost and power loss, just managed to carry enough speed to get past and then quickly pull over to the side and restart the thing and get going again.

I think maybe a poll to find out what percentage of cars suffer overboost whether stock or modified could be enlightning.Like someone else on tonights cruise I am considering a replacement vehicle. If Ford don't have a cure for overboost then they shouldn't be making turbocharged cars.

That was an interesting thing to hear on the cruise tonight Mr X.

I used to suffer overboost before mods but not to the extent that you actually had to turn off the car and restart while still cruising down the road..Scarey  that

Could'nt agree more. Bloody dangerous. I worry everytime I go to overtake someone and only pray that it never happens when my wife and kids are in the car.

Ford should have had this sorted out by now before someone dies. If they have'nt already because of it.

That's why I'm seriously thing of changing the a N/A XR6 and supercharging it.

If I knew of this problem before I brought the car, I would've gone for the above or XR8 instead.

Well my logic goes like this.If Ford can't fix it ;sell the fcuking thing before the masses find out that they,re a potential death trap and the resale value drops to 5 tenths of *beep* all.No I'm not happy when I can't trust the thing to do what it should do and wants to kill me or my family.Yeah I wish I'd bought an XR8 too.The honeymoon's over.

Guy's with modded T's don't get overboost cuts confused with fuel cuts or knock sensors cuting in.

I've been running the Xede now since July. I had the Xede fitted and tuned by Simon at Nizpro. After they fitted the Xede and on cold days or nights, I couldn't even use anymore than 1/2 throttle and the car would go into limp mode. They tried twice to re-tune the car but were unable to correct the problem.

After a couple of near misses I took up an offer from Pretzel to let Dynowog tune the car. My car was the first one that he had tuned that used the Xede. With no prior knowledge of the software he retuned the car. After the re-tune I never experienced the over boost problem again. He was able to tune it out completely.

Since then I had a problem where I thought that the Xede may have been faulty. So I headed to Nizpro to have it checked out. I had lost all of my performance. As it turned out it was actually a problem with a boost sensor and the wastegate soleniod. After rectifying the problem at Nizpro they decided to re-tune the car while it was there. Yes you guessed it the overboost problem is now back.

I still don't know what Nizpro do differently to Dynowog. If one guy can tune it out and the other guy tunes it back in, something must be different with the tunes, either setting off a knock sensor of running to lean and the PMC picking it up and shutting down the engine to protect it.

My point is, if someone can tune the problem out. Why is it that a Company with all its resources not be able to come up with a fix. Surely they need to change some parameters within their software. Maybe they've just made the parameter tolerances to tight and the PMC is too quick to kick into limp mode.

Sorry to waffle on

It's not waffle Macka...it makes a interesting read :spoton:

My T std suffered from overboost but not to the point where you had to shutdown and restart....only had to take foot off accelerator and reapply it..

The cruisers tonight had to restart either on the move or on the side of the road :ermm:

When I got phase I fitted the overboost issue never happened again..

With Phase II fitted I still have not had an overboost..

Tonight I gave vixen absolute hiding and never faultered once..Even had it in 4th gear with foot flat for some 30 odd secs never hiccupped..

All T drivers tonight, suffering from overboost expressed a deep concern for what happened and what may have been if the situation was not in there favour..

I'm glad that you don't suffer from this problem. :spoton:

Sounds like you have someone who knows how to tune cars properly. As soon as I get a chance I'll be back to get dynowog to retune. Next time it won't be with an Xede though.

I think you have hit the nail on the head with that one Macka.

Someone with 100% knowledge of nothing is wiser than someone with 0% knowledge of everything
