Groundhog day in as much as a thread that starts out with meaningful discussion ends up being a sledge on Police. We dont make the laws, we just enforce them, and we dont have the options of only enforcing the one's we like.

If you don't like the laws it's not Mr. Plod's fault, blame the govt

QUOTE:SBR79, whilst I sort of understand your point, I think a crack at the police is uneccessary. Previously they have been the ones tring to drive the initiatives to get them off the street. At the end of the day you have to put yourself in their shoes, imagine seeing the same old person out there dragging day in day out, of course they are going to target, don't you think being a local police officer that you get to see a pattern, and start to see the same old faces? A small group unfortunately put themselves in that position, not the other way around.

In relation to the removal of vehicles I believe it should not be permanent, however with a 3 tier warning system it clearly gives the individual the opportunity to change their behaviour. If they cannot control themselves with 3 warnings then maybe they should not be behind the wheel? What's more important, doing a burnout to impress your friends once a week, or having a job, car and financial stability?

See your point VG, as I have indicated in my posts, I do not believe that the Police come into it. Like my last post Heir Bracks and his cronies are the ones that dictate and inforce, Police just have to dodge all the red tape and then become accused of weilding the big stick.

Hang on, I never said all police were bad, far from it, its like everything there is always a bad few who believe them selves to be better than most, or love power. that's what I meant, there are a lot of good police around, who love thier job not the power that comes with it, but like human nature dictates some peoples egos are driven by power, and their abilities to push others around in all sorts of ways whether its legal or not so legal. that's what I meant, but yes if you don't HIOON you have nothing to worry about, but interrprutation of hooning is a thing precieved by the poliec officer at the time not a book sitting in the court house. Trust me I have seen someone booked for something they didn't do, but hey who are we to argue the Police are always right ( well the bad ones who think they are above the law). that's my gripe about it all , not the fact its a law to help rid the world of the rebellious.

I have two main problems with "anti-hoon" laws.

1. They punish people with expensive cars more than people who have cr@p cars.

Imagine if I had my $50,000 XR6 Turbo seized (and didn't get it back). This is effectively a $50,000 fine for me. On the other hand, some guy with a 20 year old car worth bugger all gets his car seized. He could probably afford to replace it and do hoon stuff again within a week.

2. It has the potential to cause high speed chases.

Imagine this hypothetical situation. I've had my 3 warnings and if I get caught being a hoon again I lose my car. I've just done a burn out and see flashing blue and red lights coming towards me. Do you think I'm going to stop. No f*cking way! I'll look at it from the point of view that I have nothing to lose. If I get caught, I lose my $50,000 car. If I crash, I lose my $50,000 car. If I get away, I keep my $50,000 car. I wonder which choice I'm going to try to opt for.

With the proposed SA laws there is also one other thing I don't like. The police only have to "suspect" you of doing hoon-like behaviour to confiscate your car. This really is open to abuse by the few "bad eggs" in the police force. And also, police are human and make mistakes. That's why we have courts.

I have been falsely accused by police of hoon-like behaviour before as have other people I know. If the proposed laws had been in place then, my car would probably have been confiscated.

We’ve had “anti-hoon” laws over here in Tas for a little while now…..it certainly seems to have had an effect on the amount of Fri/Sat night street racing around town……Cars confiscated under hoon laws

As for the argument that it’s unfair to penalize people because there’s a lack of track facilities, let me know how that works out…because driving over to the shooting range is a real hassle, perhaps I could apply the same rational and just duck out into the street and squeeze off a few rounds instead…? :spoton:

How many people who are pro these laws can honestly say that they never do anything that would appear as hoon behaviour?
