I cant believe some of the stuff Im reading here. :shifty:

We live in a free society, do what we want (as long as it's not illegal, immoral or fattening). We dont have curfews as they do in some countries. we wear what clothes we want. We arent persecuted for the beliefs we follow. We can speak our mind/ express our views without fear of reprisals. WE CAN WALK DOWN OUR STREETS WITHOUT FEAR.(usually)

I feel the original author was expressing a concern that we are not "up to the task" in the world's eye.

NOT that he thought we were'nt up to it.

Our defence force (well, the Army anyway) is one of the best trained in the world and our casualty list supports this (501 KIA in Vietnam compared with phenominal numbers of US soldiers).

As a small force we are more than up to the task and professional to the end. We are disciplined and focussed. NOT complacent we know our limitations and work on strengthening those. I come from a family that has served in all theatres of conflict as I'm sure some of the members here have as well. I have 18 yrs of service and still going strong. I am patriotic and passionate about the country I live in.

Our Defence force is "over there" not only helping the cause but also sending a message not to mess with us as we will defend our homeland. Just as we did in WW2 when the Japanese tried to invade Darwin.

Now that Ive had my 60 seconds of rhetoric (and probably stirred up a hornets nest) I leave you with one thought.

If your reading this... Thank a teacher

If your reading this in english and not afraid of reprisals for doing so.....thank a soldier.

Oh, puuuhhhhllllleeeeezzz !! What drivel ! This isnt an ad for the 'Re-elect George W campaign either'. That is the sort of bull :censored: rhetoric that gets nations like the US in trouble in the 1st place

BTW I have had military service and UN service o/s in Timor and Cyprus (where guns were pointed at me and a mate was shot at just after he dropped me off).

"Just as we did in WW2 when the Japanese tried to invade Darwin." Yes, no doubt about it, our troops held and held in PNG when the enemy was trying to drive through but, trust me, without the US helping out in the Pacific area sheer numbers would have meant a result completely different. Nothing against any of our soldiers anywhere, as I am very proud of them and honoured by what others did in the past, but be a little factual here, rather than sounding a bit like a gung-ho marine

HMMM Well touchy subject here

I wont add anything... suffice to say that all points have been covered by both sides.. I just think that people arent reading from the same page.. somewhere along the lines the topic has been confused and people are taking things the wrong way....

It is a good thing that no one got injured..

But

that is in most part a testament to the training and skill of our soldiers

I'd just like to see this whole thread deleted in it's entirity as it is serving no useful purpose and I can't see it leading to any useful discussion whatsoever.

It's amazing how everytime someone posts a thread up along comes other people and want to close the thread

Why? The guy is asking for questions here and wants to get a better understanding of what is happening. l thought this forum is to post topics and get anwsers from people. l understand somtimes that we do tend to get off topic but why we just talk or debate on these topics....what's wrong with it....don't we live in a Democratic country and have free speech.

If you don't like the topic close it and get over it.

Thank God for the Yanks in the Battle of the Coral Sea,we owe them BIG time. However on ANZAC day I,m never more proud to be an Australian and I,m sure our Kiwi mates feel the same on the day about being new Zealanders. :spoton:

Yip in NZ we are very proud of our old soldiers on ANZAC day, in fact everyday.. Kiwis and Aussies take the piss out of each other about all sorts of things but we all agree with what you say

I flew in a P 40 Kittyhawk last year that was flown by Australian pilots during WW 2 and it had been rebuilt by Kiwis a few years ago. I was amazed by the performance and I remember flying along at 300 plus MPH thinking of those young boys fighting against the enemy in this very machine.

Brave guys indeed.

For you engine buffs it has a 1200 hp V12 Allison engine.
