Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but, to my knowledge the manual in the XRT is a T5? Correct? And the manual in the XR8 is a Tremec 3650 or something like that? Which is in a mustang and also in the T3? I had a big argument with this nob jockey at the Mick Webb stand at the Ford vs Expensive Daewoo show in Melbourne as he was trying to tell me that the XRT has the same Tremec box as the XR8 and the that the normal XR6 has the T5. As much as I tried to argue (right or wrong?) the the XRT manual is the beefed up version from the AU3 XR8 this guy just wasn't having a bar of it....Then he pulls out the, "Well I work at Ford and I just fixed a Tremec 3650 (<--or whatever it is) in a XRT the other day and I can tell you it's exactly the same as the XR8 box!"

Maybe I'm wrong? But this guy was adament, and if I am right then I sure don't want some nob like this working on my car (installing the lightning shift) so, Mick Webb can say good by to my business as I say, "Hello Herrod and your SureShift!"

BTW, has anyone tried changing the gearbox oil like WBT56 suggested? Will Ford still honour the warranty with this change? Whats this oil worth? Does it make enough of a difference to not warrant the Sureshift? I really find the shift quality quite dirty...

cdm, as far as I am aware you are definitely correct. XR8 has a tremec from mexico while the XRT has a T5 which is made in, or put together, in Geelong(?). XR8 gearbox is stronger and better, I think it is the same one as is in the GT, but I'm not 100% sure about that either. Check out the CAPA website as I know they have a few 'box options too (oil kit, short shifter & 6 speed). Could be a goer! I don't think that installing a short shifter will greatly increase 'smoothness', but oil kit might.

Cheers

You are correct, the T has a T5 in it. It is identical to an AU V8 box except for about three componants. The V8 runs a TR3650. If this guy has actually "fixed" a TR3650, he will be a very busy lad, as many of them don't appear to be right from the factory. I think a lot of the confusion comes from the fact that the T5 is now tagged as Tremec also. In the near future, people will have to be very careful about buying a "Tremec" from a wrecker, as it may be just a T5.

Sheesh, hard to remember, I wasn't paying mutch attention to his looks. About 188cm, short spikey brown hair, a little bit chunky and looked about late 20's....oh, and a nob protruding from his forehead...( :hiwelcome: did I just say that?) It was about 3:30PM on Sunday. Eh, I got over it in the 30 secs it took to walk to the Herrod stand...

Not the whole box, but I am not too sure about these things. Must be a shorter lever and maybe better aligned gates?? Somehow decreases the necessary distance...where are the technical guru's?

I am a technical guru and I also designed the SVO lightning Shifter

ITS NOT A SHORTER LEVER

We designed and manufactured this item in house

Made from a combination of high tensile alloy and machined steel it features a superior Teflon bush and is finished with a Nickel & Anodized plating for both appearance and longevity.

It is designed to accept a standard shift lever found in all manual five-speed Falcons & Holdens

It reduces the shift travel by approx 40%

If you need any more info regarding this item please contact me

Mick Webb

My apologies the staff I had at the show were not all the guys that work for me.

The person that you spoke to does work for Ford, but in the spare parts department and you would have had dealings with the odd spare parts guru that knows everything!

Once again I do apologise for getting the wrong info

Thanks for the response Mick. Your lightning shifter was something that I had been considering for a long time now, even before I had my XRT as evidenced by the date of my original post - March 12. After the expectations that I had of your company and this product I must say that I found it disappointing dealing with this character as I was almost prepared to put my name down on the spot. Unfortunately, as you mention, there are these, "guru’s who know everything" and I just happened to cop one when I came to your stand.

Either way, it was just my experience with one person which may in no way represent the attitudes of your company or quality of its products. No hard feelings, just one lost sale.

Regards,

Chris.
