Posted 07/06/03 09:02 AM Share Posted 07/06/03 09:02 AM I will too once Im over the first 5 - 7k, then I'll use synthetic oil like Castrol Formula R, but in the early stages of any machines life it is critical you have good clean lubrication. I work in a Powerstation, lubrication and vibration analysis are the two main condition monitoring systems used in monitoring the operation of machinery and predicting part failure so it can be repaired before it totally fails (would have used more colourful words here but the moderators might get upset :D ). So erring on the side of caution is not a bad thing. Having said that 1500 k between oil changes is BS too! I reckon 1500 k oil change is BS! Ill do it at every 5000.That would be why my oil analysis results looked better than I would have thought. Most engines don't get a real good run-in effort at the factory, however if a manufacturer is telling you to not change oil until 10000 or 15000 kms, they'd better be pretty sure that the engine won't drop a s**t before the first service!!As Silverhawk says, better to err on the side of caution, unless you know more than the average punter. Just to clarify, what is the side of caution. Is being cautios ignoring the service department and askeing them to change the oil anyway.OR is being cautious following the recommendations of Ford and the service guys??My car is booked in for its 3000 (actually 4000) next week and I have asked for an oil change and the results of your analysis makes me wonder if I should change my mind and go with Fords reccomendation?? Posted 09/06/03 01:00 AM Share Posted 09/06/03 01:00 AM cam, for the peace of mind oil and filter change, especially if you drive her hard sometimes (I do ). My dealer never queried my request for filter/oil change (probably because the cost of labour wasa nice little earner for them :D ).Small price to pay mate. Cam,Erring on the side of caution is to change the oil a little more frequently than the manufacturer recommends.I would suggest that a change of oil and filter at 4000 would still be a good plan. The filters are about $12 and the oil shouldn't be any more than about $30, so it is cheap insurance. After this one, if you decide to use a synthetic or part synthetic, a change at every 15000km would be fine, but if you want to keep the vehicle for a good period of time and treat it a bit better and only use a less expensive mineral type oil, then maybe a change at 10000km would be better in the long run. Guest IMTRBO Guests Posted 09/06/03 03:15 AM Share Posted 09/06/03 03:15 AM What is the point of an OIL CHANGE if you dont do the filter all the crap from the engine will get bak into ure new oil no point mides as well leave it for the 15k , But if you like your baby and if you know anything about turbo's there a couple golden rules* Remember your engine is as good as the oil you put in it I prefer shell helix ultra or MOBIL 1 , Falchoon reckons it's not recomended LOL that is why half the f**kn globe use it , MOBIL 1 burns fast because it is fully senthetic it is not ment to last falchoon it is a preformance oil designed not to dedinate ure motor at high temp .* Engine ware is due to not warmining you car up and lot allowing the oil reach the top of the head before you go kanning around looking for a vx ss to beat. You should at least allow 2 min of idel time so the oil can reach optiamal tempreture and all moving parts are evenly coated ..AS for the black carbon build up that Falchoon quoted befire that has nothing to do with the oil moron use. it is due to turning the motor off with out letting the turbo spinn freely for 2 min. That is how gunk builds up on the compress wheel shaft LOL I dont know were you lernt stuff about cars but u been wrong on several occasion but as HARSEN pointed out before you know everything!!!!!!! ..... on a NA a change should be every 7.5 on my mirage turbo I use to change it evert 3.5 with a filter every time ....
