Hi all,

I am lucky enough to have been invited to the Channel 10 "inner circle" event at Qld Raceway today. Was supposed to be run by Dick Johnson but apparently Dick had to fly to Melbourne so we got Warren Luff.

Anyway, the whole day was fantastic and we thrashed a DJR320 around the track for 5 hours..............Awesome!!!!!

Initially I was a bit disappointed with the persformance in a straight line. I honestly believe that my T would beat the DJR320 in a straight line. The handling was very average with heaps of body roll when we zig zaged the whitches hats. Under heavy braking the ABS came on VERY early and made the whole ride VERY jittery. The only real thing that impressed me was the awesome V8 note!!

At the end of the day, Warren took us out for some HOT LAPS and this is where the DJR320 comes into its own. Clearly, this car is made to perform on long sweeping corners and relatively long straights. I still have a grin on my face from ear to ear!! Mate, can he drive!!!

According to Warren Luff, we were driving the first of 18 that have been built to this day. The car had 24,000km on the clock so it was well and truely driven in. The Alcor brakes looked huge inside the 19" Rims and simply washed off the speed from 200km/h into turn 1. The rear wing looked very conservative and don't get me started on the bonnet scoop! From the drivers seat it lookes like someone has left an esky lid on the bonnet. The Dunlop SP9000 were outstanding given the punishment it was given on the day(track temp in the 40.c)

My opinion is that it would be a very hard car to live with as a daily driven car. The clutch is heavy and very easy to stall if you don't give it enough herbs. For city driving it would simply be torture on the driver. The exhaust note is truely awesome and probably worth the money if you could afford it. At 90k I think the whole package is way overpriced. A GTP would be 20k cheaper and in my opinion a better drive, looks better and I think the Brembos match the Alcor for feel on the road.

If you read this Dick, thanks for the drive but I know why you have only sold 18!

On the way home I took the long way home through some twisty stuff and my mate in the passanger seat made the comment, " I think this car feels much more agile than the DJR car", refering to my XR6T!! Completely unsolicited and it came from a staunch HSV man.

Still glowing with pride.................

I love the DJR cars, but agree that paying $90k is a little over the top.

I owned a beautiful BA XR8 up until recently and thought it handled respectfully. Last week I got to punt my client's BA XR6 across the hillside and I couldn''t get over the difference. The XR6 was a much more balanced thing to drive and felt much quicker thru the corners.

The sound of the XR8 was something else I must say. It will be interesting to see how much the Mk2 version will improve the car's balance.

how much better does the djr car sound over a stoch xr8? and is the djr exhaust system a herrod system cos I have one and it does sound pretty nice

now if I only had a super lumpy cam that would top the awesome note right off
