Hi PPLs,

I'm at that stage where I'd like to do my CAI... was looking for some feedback.

I'm a daily reader of this site so assume I've read about all the various options available... from a performance point of view, I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the following:

1. XR8 Pod with the BPT adapter

2. Geea's 'F**KING CHEAP BUT EFFECTIVE 2nd Intake'

3. Macka's sexy Shaker CAI....

Looking at it objectively and trusting the results people have had with the various options, it looks like Macka's would be the preference for me at this stage (pending costs CMON MAN GIVE IT TO US!!!! :spoton: ) as:

a) looks schmicko :D

b) is very effective performance wise (I wreckon ramming all that air into the intake is a good thing)

c) looks like it cools the motor significantly in general.

I suspect the XR8 Pod / BPT adapter would be the next best performing would I be correct? would it be worth the extra $$$ over GEEA's 2nd CAI?

I plan on getting injectors, a chip/edit/whatever in the nearish future also...

WHATDAYATHINK!?

Cheers,

Paul

Paul after driving Mackas car with the shaker....l know what l will be doing it's awesome

The XR8 snorkel mod that l did is good for $60 and does the job but if your going to put injectors and so on, go the McShake :spoton: it does amazing things l can't explain :ermm::ermm:

Ive got a XR8 pod with a adapter for the over radiator intake, and I rate it highly. No problems with warranty, the Police, and it certainly gave me more horses on the rollers.... and it sounds tops too!

Ive fitted several to other members rides as well, and for the money, they all say you cant go wrong. :spoton:

Do be careful though, if you put too much in, it will overboost and go into limp home mode...... only when you give it a hard time... this doesnt just apply to XR8 pods, it applies to everything that hasnt been chipped.

Miyagi. My name is Bayden, I haven't posted on this forum before, but have read with great interest. My first post here is to give a bit of input into this topic.

I live in Castlemaine and know Neil McLean well. My car is a STANDARD turbo ute, but running a manual trans versus the auto. Recently Neil asked me to bolt the McShaker onto my car and drive it for a week to check how the standard computer reacted to it. Along with the shaker scoop, I also bolted his white bonnet onto my Blood Orange ute, so the shaker stood out like the preverbial. During this time I had the opportunity (as if you ever need an excuse to drive a Ford 'T'), to drive to Bendigo three times after work. During hard throttle gear changes (in my manual) the noises coming from this thing and the turbo are in a word- 'addictive'. During this week, I saw people just about falling over themselves to look at the car when we drove past, obviously had a lot to do with a white bonnet on an orange car as well, to draw attention to what was hanging out the bonnet!

My impressions of it were that it was absolutely awesome, both in sheer looks and the performance gain, which particularly under hard throttle was definitely more than noticeable. The one thing that I did notice was that under heavy aceeleration through gear changes the computer would definitely go into confusion for a second and snuff out the power. This was only very temporary, though, back off the throttle and immediately back on and the power was back again. Since removing the shaker to put back onto Mackas' car I haven't noticed this again. The other thing I have noticed when I drove up to Bathurst was that the car definitely did not feel like it had the same power. I reckon if I'd had it on the car at Bathurst, I would have been swamped! :w00t2:

One more thing- now this in no way goes to say that this thing is either legal or approved! While I had the shaker fitted to my car, I asked a local police officer, who I know personally, what was his impression of the offending protrusion and whether it would be a likely cause to pull the vehicle over (mind you this was with the prototype that actually sits higher). His off the record comment was that no, he didn't see it as being a good reason.

Second impressions- as sson as it was removed from my car and we fitted back onto Mackas' car, it felt like I'd had an arm removed- the car just doesn't look the same and certainly doesn't perform as well! Needless to say, I'll be getting one as soon as they are available and Mackas' got a price- Got to be getting close now surely! :w00t2:

guys I have nothing to do with macka and as ive said before ive seen it ive touched it I'm impressed by it! it does not look to me as if its a bargain basement type product it is well made so it would not compare to the other mentioned mods although as macka seems to love this site so I believe it will be good value for money! by the way somewhere along the line ive heard of the xr8's having a shaker? any one seen 1? any idea on $? could not find it and cant remember if it is even true!

Thinking to get one pretty soon. What do you mean when it sounds tops? I take it you hear the sucking sound, is it loud?

Regards,

Hi Rob,

About $300 for the lot, including the "cold air adapter".

If you wanted to run a BMC filter as well, you'd need to chuck about another $140 on top of that price as well.

You can definately hear the turbo drawing the air in with any modified air intake, and also the wastegate "chatter" is a lot more audible as well. I rate the sound highly! :w00t2:

Cheers! :w00t2:

Hi Paul,

All of the mods you asked about are all good mods and it depends really on what your after. If you want a sleeper look go for the two other options Geea's mod has been proven to work for a low price. Cannot comment on the XR8 pod as I have'nt used it.

As far as the shaker goes. If its attitude you want this certainly has it and your car is noticed by everyone. I have had the shaker on my car now for 3 months and have been passed and observed by many police cars either stationary or highway patrol and have never been looked at more than twice with the second glance being the usual thing that happens everytime someone see's it for the first time. And have never been pulled over. There is no problem with legalities as it mets all requirements for bonnet extrusions as described by the Victorian Traffic Authority. If you live interstate it would be wise to check their requirements before you go down this path but I see no problems with it. Especially when you compare it to the WRX bonnet intake, that looks bloody dangerous and I would like to be hit by that sucker.

George is right. You really can't explain what it does until you have driven a car with it on. It definately increases your cars performance it looks great and sounds awesome. It will also improve your cars economy, as many will verify who went on the Albuty cruise. Filled up in Melbourne drove to Albury them across to Rutherglen. I then headed home via Yarrawong to Sheparton across to Bendigo then finally home to Castlemaine. Total Km travelled 762 all on the same tank of fuel, and I still had 40km left in the tank according to the trip computer. Average consuption was 10.2 lt/100 and improving all the time. Another 2-300km and it would have been in the 9's/100 km. All this witha car that has larger injectors, exed and other mods that produce 256 rwkw on a reputable dyno.

For those people who say that the factory ECU gives false readings about fuel economy after installing larger injectors are sadly mistaken. I check my average fuel consumption before I left Albury sunday morning to see what range I had left and wether I had enough fuel to get home without re-fuelling and it calculated out to be exactly what I ended up with and a little left over. I basically drove half way around the state on the same tank of fuel at 110kmh highway cruising speed.

As Bayden will varify there is a noticable improvement in power levels and the fuel economy improves from the time you start driving the car around with it on.

Sorry about the long reply just wanted to give members some more feed back after some more R & D.
