I reckon it's the other way around, as the V8 should be taller than the T for initial off-the-line movement.2.97 1st with a 3.73 diff works very well, as I've used it (11.08 overall ratio).2.66 1st with a 3.73 diff would not be so good (9.92 overall ratio).Compare with old T5;2.95 1st with a 3.46 diff, has (10.21 overall ratio).2nd gear ratio of 1.78 with a 3.73 diff should pull around 102 kph, for good 0-100kph times, for marketing purposes; and that is very close to the same overall gearing ratio of 2nd with the T5 (1.94 ratio with 3.46 diff).Brian

But there is a very good reason why Ford have put a lower first gear in the V8. They want it to be quicker out of the blocks than the T. Also, even though it has more torque at idle than the T6, it's torque curve doesn't build as rapidly so it needs the lower gear to get it's lardarse moving. However the other gear ratios are closer together so this will compensate further down the 1/4. The autos will still be quicker

The autos will still be quicker Why should the Auto's be quicker ?You are lossing about 10-15KW to pump trans fluid around the box so that you can change gears ?And in case no-one has notice, the BTR Auto does "Torque" the engine down when it sees a "Stall" condition on the converter.
