Guest MercuryXR6T Guests Posted 18/03/03 04:45 AM Share Posted 18/03/03 04:45 AM All,Westpoint just called to say that my personal plates for my turbo are too short. The plates are 25cm long and the pre drilled holes are 36cm apart.Does anyone have any experience of this problem? How did you resolve it?I don't really want to drill more holes Thanks in advance

I have also ordered slim line plates for mine. The std 3 alpha plus 3 numeric jobbies.I have seen a few cars around and they seem to be just as wide but not as tall. I did not think any extra holes were needed... Maybe I need to rethink this. Are they talking the distance between the two top holes or the distance between the top and bottom holes. I would think that the bottom of the plate does not need to be screwed down.Did you get personalised plates or just std slim line ones.?

They are 37 x 10cm (approx) and fit the pre drilled holes exactly. From the Vic Roads Web SiteAll 6 character plates 372mm long x 100mm high All 5 character plates 315mm long x 100mm high All 4 characters or less 250mm long x 100mm high So I assume you have ordered 4 characters or less on your plate. I suspect there are only 2 options...1. drill new holes2. make a holder up that is wide enough to use the existing holes and attach the plate to the holder...May I suggest that you get a strip of aluminium that is correct lenght and about 15mm wide, screw/rivet the plates to the strip and then screw the strip to the car. You could even paint the strip so it is matching and therefore less obvious. Edited 18/03/03 07:44 AM by richdave

Beleive it or not, on my AU all I held the plates on with was four or five strips of double sided tape and pressed them on firm, then put the covers over the top to fill the normal holes. This looked much beter than screws and didn't require drilling. In the three years the plates were on the car they never came off. In fact, they stuck a little too good because I bent my front plate trying to get it off last Friday when I sold the car. Only bent the plate a little and took two secs to straighten, give it a go, that's what I'll be doing when I get mine.
Guest MercuryXR6T Guests Posted 18/03/03 08:35 PM Share Posted 18/03/03 08:35 PM All,Went down to Westpoint last night. Problems are two fold.1. Rear plate space has two plastic plugs which take a regular number plate. These can be pushed out but you are left with two ugly holes.2. Front number plate space has two small holes std number plate width apart. Both sets of holes only fasten the top of the platesBdennis - your plates will be fine as your have ordered three letters and three numbers. I only have three letters and one number.Richdave - I am probably going to take your suggested course of action and get a holder and secure the plates to inside of the holder and utilise the existing holes.Pics will be posted on Saturday when I take delivery !!!Cheers
