Wow....

I changed my order four or five times before delivery, and each time, the order was faxed back to me for confirmation before submission. The car I'm driving now is exactly what I (eventually) ordered.

I've been wondering if I was just a little hard to deal with after being told by my dealer not to continue ringing - I have rung five times in four months - then I saw the oreder changes listed above.

At least my order has remained the same. Just the dealers milestones have been shyte. That's the thing that has changed.

What bitter and twisted?

Me?

I would call or be called at least 3 or 4 times a week over an 8 week period and every time I called, the salesman (Glenn -- can't praise him enough) was great. Even though I could tell he was probably getting a little annoyed, he still dealt with me competantly and courteously.

Also, I'm one of the only people that has a satellite navigation system that he knows of, so I told him he could refer potential buyers to me and I'd explain how it works, etc. Just my way of giving a little back.

Hi all,

Thanks to all those who gave advice on Ford dealers in Canberra. I should have looked in the yellow pages before posting as it seems that there are only two dealers in town anyway...

Regardless, I drove myself around to some of the dealers on Friday/Saturday to see if I could set my eyes on an XR6T in the flesh. No luck... John McGrath in Woden had two XR6T utes but that was it. The XR8 in Phantom they had will apparently be back on display soon. It seems that someone decided it looked too good and could do with a a couple of key marks down the side.

Anyway I was particulary interested in seeing an XR with the leather seats and sun roof so I can decide if I really want these options. As soon as the dealers know that you want an XR6 they all become a bit less interested. It seems that each dealer is only allocated a certain number of XR6T's per month (2 I think for John McGrath) and that is one reason why there is an excessive delay in delivery as you are not only limited by the Ford factory vehicle production rate but also the individual dealers quota.

So cutting to the chase, I think I will be ordering in a week of two but I would really like to see the leather and sun-roof in a car before I commit to these options. If there is anyone in Canberra who would be kind enough to let me see their leather seats and/or sun roof so I can make a more informed decision please PM me. I want to get the order right the first time so I don't have to change it later...

Isher,

John Mcgrath have a dealership in belco too, that's where I got mine from. They looked after me fairly well.

If you want to see leather, I think there are a couple at Gregory's in bradon. I went out there last night to have a drool with a mate who has just ordered an XR8 ute (B***ARD!). They seem to have quite a bit of stock of XR's on the floor. Couple of T's about 5 8's, and some Herrod tweeked models, including one of the most impressive looking BA's I have seen to date. It is a maroon Fairmont Ghia, with Herrods leather, suspention, and a set of Herrods 19s that I would sell my sole for.

Dear All,

Thanks for the advice on dealers and the off-line assistance to look at the leather and sunroof. I wne to Gregory's last night and they had about 4-5 XR8's sitting in the shop. One had leather so I got a good look at that. I was also shown an AU with a sunroof which I was advised is very similar to the sunroof in teh BA XR's.

After dragging myself around teh three dealers in town I think Gregory's may be the best option. The bloke there even offered me a test drive in an XR8 right there and then! At least they have vehicles in the lot.

I think I will be able to place an order early next week! :D

Regards,

Isher

I bought my XR at the other place in town.

I found them to be far better than Gregory's who didn’t even have any brochures to give me.

And on their quote charged me for premium paint, which I discovered in my brochure I got from McGrath’s was a no cost option on the XR's.

That combined with disinterested salesmen turned me off G.F in the city.

But perhaps they aren’t interested in fleet sales...

But you have to wonder whe Mc's have very few XR's on display, and G.F.I.T.C have heaps, perhaps one dealer is selling all of their cars and the other is not....

Hi Guy's

Must say I agree that Jonh McGrath Woden is the best in Canberra after my shopping experiences best price by about 2 grand. Ordered my XR6 in Blueprint from them on March 14th the SIDO number was given two days later. Dealer reckons early MAY build with end of May early June delivery. The salesman out there (Nathan) was the best I’ve delta with in many years couldn't do enough top bloke!, I change cars about every 2 years, advantages of having your own business.

Can't wait till the meet!!

Definitly a higher ratio of XR's here in Canberra.

On the way home from work on Friday driving from Woden to Bonython (about 15 k's) I saw 5.

2 Blueprint, 2 Phantom and a Mercury.

Yesterday I went to Sydney and between Campbeltown and Rydalmere (probably 40k's). And only saw 2 XR's, a pittyful effort Sydney.

Damn all you people in Canberra ( with envy)

Won't be able to order my 'T' until the end of next year when I finish my Masters :bookworm:

Until then I'll just have to mop up the puddle of drool every time I see one.

I'll be the idiot in the 'ABC' car with the vacant look on my face :o
