I voted awesome.... but awesome only for looks/styling... its a headturner... I wont go as far as to say that the whole package is awesome... lets first wait and see how refined (if at all) the rest of the package is. but for its looks it gets the :crybaby:

I think it is awesome, but I think the Typhoon still looks way to similar to the XR...they need to get to this. Not that the XR is bad, it is great, but they need to differentiate.

What I have said before.

The GT represents the best everyday car in the BA range, it suffered from not having a BOSS specific suspension tune. People that argue the T3 was a better drivers car (and they are right) were doing so mainly because of this lack of development time. I also don't feel the bottom end of the car was as responsive as a V8 should. HSV had that situation worse.

In this day and age you shouldn't need a strip package to make the car look good.

In the right colours the package worked which I believe says something about the original design.

What I am saying now.

The F6.

If you’re buying a Ford product I would encourage everyone to do the research and make sure you aren't paying for something that is standard in other cars. If you care about resale you can bet your bottom dollar the first thing manufacturers will do is add the feature at no cost sometime down the line. I call it future proofing and it is why the current GT owners will get burnt the most this time round.

The F6 has no competition. It comes with a high degree of engineering and although it's not available with auto option the chances engine spec will change are very remote. The only possible option would be the XR6T but unless you plan to do modifications yourself the F6 looks to be excellent value as well. It opens the door to better options and to be honest FPV could use your dollar. I have a test drive booked for the end of the month and am very much looking forward to it. From what I know there will be another upgrade to BA before it is replaced. As it stands the F6 (without a drive) would be my recommendation. If performance in a straight line is important it has the best chance to level the HSV score. (In theory)

The GT.

I am genuinely surprised some work wasn't carried out to engine specs. It’s been two years since the car was shown and I believe they knew HSV were coming with more torque. That equates to a leveling of that particular playing field. For some the F6 is going to bother and that will be enough for these types of people to sit on the fence.

I am expecting a vastly improved driver’s car. Better control of the front end which it required with better balance from the rear. As a whole package the responsiveness should be noticeable and the times could very well be a shock. In theory it should be closer than what people might expect. One thing that stood out yesterday was the HSV produced performance times- FPV continue not to.

There were some other oddities with the GT press release. Conrod redesign was specifically mentioned not colour coding and although premium was talked about in at least one document prestige was written down on spec sheets.

The GT would have to be the pick in terms of value. No cost for auto, but on the future proof scale the auto option is out. Don't buy it now.

It’s pretty easy to say this is the package they should have released so basically there it is I have said it. The car should have had climate and the gauges should never have left. David if you read this and remember our conversation at Kempton, I will take this action as a "I was right"

Not sure about the execution, but it certainly gives the car interior individuality.

Sticking with 18s for the GT was in my belief a good move. However they retained the worse wheel design in Ford history. If they were after cost cutting give the GT the GT-P MK1 wheels. It’s a better fit with the standard brakes of the GT.

Picking up premium sound was a bonus I didn't predict on the GT. Nice touch.

Future proof wise the GT engine will come in for attention. It was a mistake not to do it now and I believe it could very well happen next year when the new auto comes on line. This was a mistake because it puts us V8 owners back into the T series years and generally that isn't good for resale.

The other possible problem is that unless the GT and GT-P have specific suspension tunes to allow for the different tyre package, the car that should be the Grand Tourer in the range could be a little harsh. Drive and tests will either confirm or clear.

The GT-P

The car that received the least, looks the best. The wheel design in my opinion is the best yet. Shows off the Brembos better. Tyre package on paper looks to have been reduced to 235 against the 245 of the GT. That could be a potential problem with handling if it isn't some sort of error.

In this car the stiffness added to the suspension should work better with the brake package, but I would have liked the two Boss cars to have been separated in damper control.

If you’re looking at this car again give the auto a miss and be aware that the R8 is offering better value and some features. Try getting leather for free it as it should be standard, and that might go some way to making the other feature points less of an issue.

The other disappointment is that the GT-P hasn't the out right performance enhancement options of the R8. Not a big issue but after two years I would have thought adaptive suspension and larger brakes again would have found it on to the radar from at least the Prodrive side of the fence. An exhaust option of twin outlets would have been real nice.

Like the GT the GT-P could finds itself out powered inside 12 months. The GT range isn't as future proof as the F6. The GT will not perform as well as the F6. My only question remains is how the F6 is to live with day to day.

Perhaps the motor show was disappointing from a concept point of view but from a product point of view the most significant new development on Ford Aust history isn't something to be sneezed about. Welcome the F6. Ford needs products not concepts. The improved sales performance bares this true.

Agreed 100% Ian.

The F6 is the stand out for sure and IMO provide the best possible resale. For me having owned a BOSS XR8 I would really miss the presence of the bonnet bulge in a BA Falcon now. I think they (FPV) should consider some sort of 'stand-out' feature on the car that is unique to that model. The XR6T also suffers from this problem.

Howdy

Do I detect past tense? Owned? What happened?

I do agree also that perhaps the turbo and F6 need some sort of definitive signatures that set them apart. It was never really a design brief to do that sort of thing with BA. The idea was to make the models very hard to tell apart. The buldge happened because it had to.

It’s hard to fail a upgrade that:

Improves value

Improves performance

Potential improves economy

Improves handling

Improves features

Doesn't go backwards in looks.

In addition expanding the model range by two models.

I have a feeling the drive impression from all FPV MK2 cars will be pretty positive.

Not sure how close the boss cars will get to the LS2 cars but I not FPV today claim they feel the V8 cars will continue to be their core business.
