It was such a good car, that my dad bought it off me rather than let me trade it in on the T. My brother was pretty happy about that.

Posted 22/10/04 05:19 AM Share Posted 22/10/04 05:19 AM 2ndly... yes I agree your setup was tuned to 34hz..BUT interior RESONANT FREQUENCY is NOT 34hz for a car of that size.. it is around 60+ ATLEAST. its a completely differentbag of fish..owned? I think not. No, I think you still got owned. Now please shutup, your insolence and ignorance is starting to become frustrating. If you think you can sustain those volumes without going deaf, to put it simply, you're a moron.Back on topicI my opinion the sub needs allot of attention in the premium sound, its 150w pmpo which is far to weak, it needs 200 and 10" minimum to produce nearly the amount of sound required for those big low end notes with clarity, not just volume. The cabin size is far to great for an 8" to performe properly, 10" is a minimum really...Ford need to look at this, I get distortion at level 15 sometimes, that's not good enough. Take this as a lesson that one should always read and learn more about people and what they know or own before they start insulting them.I would love to see your van one day MS700, I am a closet doff doff listening man. I ran a very small system in my old car ( still have it ) I dont know the SPL levels it produced I just know it was damn loud to me. I am now paying the price with what I suspect is hearing loss. Anyone who says it doesn't do it to you will find the answer out themselves in the end so its is useless trying to tell them otherwise if they aint listening.ON topic, I do find the Prem sounds to distort very early IMHO. As to where the source of it is one of the audiophiles here may hold the answer. Head Unit, AMP, Speaker, Cables. who knows be glad to here the answer. I don't however want to listen to it that loud but once up into the 25's it does sound harsh and distorted so yes NYOPA, I just turn it down to a comfortable level and hope my hearing doesnt get any worse.Does anyone else feel that the effort made on teh LCD display of the stereo is a poor attempt. In an age where stereos come with flashy lights of all sorts. It seems food has provided us with a dos style interface that is plain and boring when you consider that the LCD is a true full colour device. I wonder if there is anyway to get some new software put intot he head unit that would make some cool rrrs displays come up like a nice flashy spectrum thigy or something. I think the Premium system is good value for what you get but it could be a hole lot more with very little effort to glam it up a bit.Scruffman

Posted 23/10/04 03:31 PM Share Posted 23/10/04 03:31 PM (edited) The thing is, getting a 10 inch of the same model is almost the same price, because 8" subs aren't made in mass quite like 10's and 12's (the most popular sizes by something like 3 to 1).Ford need to redesign the parcel shelf so we can have a 10 incher and some truely deep bass (still won't be all that loud, but a litltle bit louder than the .Don't get me wrong, im not a doof doof fan, not at all as I like a bit of metal, but I come from having 6k worth of sound gear alone for my home theatre. I'm so used to having the ability to hit the big notes with force, yet still remain subtle and clear (if you get my drift). Some notes you feel rather than hear....I'm just too picky I think.Beggers can't be choosers. Edited 23/10/04 03:34 PM by Lawsy

In any audio system the most common cause of distortion is known as clipping. Without going into any technical details the amp bascically pushes beyond its means and a nice "round" sine wave becomes flat at the top and bottom.... any hoo that is distortion.I would believe this to be the case upon first examination. Another thing that is extrememly relevant is that the lower the frequency the more "power" it takes to reproduce that frequency at the same level as a different higher frequency. So if you are boosting the bottom end ie using loudness or turning up the bass this will contribute to the amp being worked a lot harder and therefore maybe clipping.Having said the above it could aslo be as you suggested any part of the system. If however at lower volumes there is no distortion it is almost certainly not the head unit. Other commonish causes are over extension of the speaker (sub) or that the front end of the amp is overloading (the least likely of the three). To tell exactly I would need a CRO to plug into all points of the audio chain to see whats happening. If you like you could play a song (something that I may have on CD any AC DC is fine) and tell me where your settings are (ie bass treble and loudness) and at what volume the distortion starts happening. I can then replicate that and let you know what I find.Anway I hope this helps a bit.cheersdavidPS and I completly agree that in 2004 the screen should be much much better. God a $4000 keyboard comes with a touch screen these days... why can't a $45K car.

Posted 24/10/04 11:50 AM Share Posted 24/10/04 11:50 AM Well, I can tell you where in a few fear factory songs it starts to distort, but I guess that isn't going to help all that much .
