@ NYOPA

yep, the general rule is to get 3db you have to double what you have ;)

For thos who may not know (I only read about this a few days ago) here is how db ratings apparently work ( may be wrong, cause I'm using my failing memory here).

eg.

6db is double the output of 3db,

9db is double the output of 6db,

12db is double 9db etc etc.

Some interesting db facts.

My Pulsar SSS's sound system was in the 130's ( I think it was 132db or something, done at one of those db rallies). The subby box that did this was a hypobaric type with 2 x 10" rockford Fosgate Punch subbies in a push pull setup. The amp was rated at 50 watts continueous (can't remember if it was per channlel or total). Been a while, but I think it was 250 watt 4 channel amp in normal speak (2 channels bridged for the subbies and other 2 channels for front speakers). I'm actually thinking of putting the subby box into the T, with a new amp for it etc. I doubt it'll reach the db heights of the Pulsar SSS (sss smaller space, hatchback apparently an advantage). But maybe this time I'll up the amps to full (they were always on 2/3 in the pulsar) or just get bigger amps ;).

Anyways, I've attached a picture of the subby box, with an A4 sheet of paper to show the scale of it. Amazingly capable, 5 year old, box, considering it's compact size. The box doesn't even rattle yet :)

if you add 3dB to her she doubles in size, add another 3db she doubles again. Shes gone from a shapely 60kg beauty to a 240Kg heffer (in 6dB)on the same heel.. and your squealling like a banshee! pray nobody adds another 3dB to her.

It actually doubles in intensity, not 'size'.

got proof?

not doubting it ,but I know my sh*t when it comes to dB drags and SQ events.. and 155+ in a panel van of everything is a farking huge ask. I mean cmonn a XB panelvan would have the interior resonant frequency of atleast 65hz..

Certainly do. 14 trophies to be precise. And a Australian record. :spoton:

For your information, my freq was 34Hz, myself and Craig Handley (if you know your sh!t like you say you do, you will know he used to be the sole importer of MTX into Australia) custom built 2 boxes, one with 8 x 15in MTX ThunderPro woofers driven by 2 x MTX 225HO's, we used to get 148's out of that configuration, and them we removed 2 of the 15's, rebuilt the enclosure, and used the space inside the box more effectively, and that is when we broke into the 150's. Reinforced the cabin while we were there. And by the time I finished competing and tuning, we were hitting 155's regulary. About the same time the MTX Hellbus was getting around.

Hypersound did most of the installation on the XB.

The whole back of the panelvan was utilised as the speaker enclosure. If you still need further proof, I still own the car, pop round and have a look at the white MTX panelvan (as it was known) in my garage..... I'll send you deaf while youre there.

Keep reading and debating as I agree with you that the 155dB figure MS700 claims is very high.

Read the above post, and if you need any clarification, just ask.........

I have no reason to make a story up like this. The invite to see the panelvan is open to you as well.

At the time I was competing, I was Australia's Loudest unsponsored 0 - 500 watt car.

Hi MS700

I wasn't doubting the figure, and now you have explained it's at 34 Hz it all makes perfect sense, thanks.

This post has certainly stirred some interest in me in Car sound and how and why the measurments are taken as they are. I will do some reading

lastly I would love to see the car sometime.

Thanks extreme you are right as well. I was trying to make the point simple and one of the fact that doubling the fat ladies "size" would be equivalent to the intensity of her heel on your foot. Sorry for any misunderstanding it was a bad analagy to use.

cheers

david

if u stated that the entire ass end of the PV was walled in the first post,I wouldnt have made my post at all. but the way your first post sounded was as u "have 2 12's" lol..

sorry for the miss understanding but now u get my drift where I was coming from.. you CANNOT pull them sort of numbers without a walled/semi-walled and braced setup.
