Or if I had one installed perhaps returning to it stock, then selling it. On the other hand if he knows it's been thrashed he will not want to pay as much. To sell to a complete stranger an unmodded car would be a better proposition. I don't think it will lose money either (in comparison to a stock XR6T). It may help sell it quicker to someone that wants a car with mods. Or it may not help depending on the potential buyer. Some people may be worried about voided Ford warranties with having a modded car. You very rarely get money back for any mods or enhancements done to a car when time comes to sell. Depending on how hard it is to remove and how much it would cost would have a bearing on whether it's worthwile removing it. I would guess it would cost in the reigon of $200-$300 to remove and retune, XR6_ED didn't have much trouble selling his Phase 1 kit for $1800, new cost is around $2600, so at these figures it probably is worth the trouble and expense to pull it off. You could give buyers the option by saying in the for-sale advert that the car is $35000 standard or $37000 with Phase 1 installed. The more Phases (ie more power) the kit is I think the less value for mods you will get when selling. I reckon you would be lucky to recoup half your costs on a $10000+ system.I will be interested to hear Geea and xr6ikness' view on this topic, though I think people here are the exception rather than the rule as we are mostly what I'd class as hard core enthusiests. Bottom line is the mods will not add a pinch of Nanny Goat Sh*T to the resale value.I will perhaps keep any bits that can be applied to the next one , if not I will not have a regret as I did it all for my own enjoyment That what cars are for , only in very limited situations are they actually an investment Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/13174-phase-i-or-ii-how-do-you-think-it-will-fair/#findComment-171480 Share on other sites
doublek Member 333 Member For: 20y 11m 2d Location: sydney Posted 01/10/04 12:54 PM Share Posted 01/10/04 12:54 PM in most cases, having work done to your car makes selling harder. when people want to buy a car they want it in original condition.if they frequent these and other forums, they may go for these mods and pay a little more but there is no way that they will pay anywhere near what you have paid for the mods.mods are for you to enjoy. you cannot in any way think that they are an investment which may be profitable.you mod.. you lose (money that is).
