HUH??

Maybe I should say I think the BA XR's should be banned from male owners, as it takes away the sexy image of the car?.

This thread is a joke right?

A good friend of mine used to run an EBII XR8 taxi. When it was time for that to come off the road - he put a AU1 XR8 on as a taxi. When its time for that one to come off the road - he will probably put a BA2 XR8 (or what ever model it is) on as a Taxi.

You cant ban people from purchasing cars because you think that they will ruin the image of the car.

Or do you think that Taxi owners are not allowed to have nice cars?

yeah if I was a taxi driver, in a car all day, id like a xr or something nice. that's a bit rude depriving the taxi drivers of a nice car. it would make them be more carefull aswell, not cutting infront of everyone all the time

Depends on the male concerned probably :D

But seriously, I thought the thread might get a good discussion going. My first thought on seeing the taxi was ... yeah, there goes another XR, ain't she beautiful. Then I remembered that article I quoted above, and, well, I thought I'd see what everyone thought.

I may be coming around to your view. In fact, maybe we need a few more 'flagship' cars as taxis - I remember looking at those ss (and the odd xr8) highway patrol cars, fully outfitted, and thinkin, man, there is one mean mofo car. If I can think that of police cars, why not taxis too? Might generate a few sales anyway.

Expensive Daewoo are right when they say Crummodore taxis would be bad for their image.

A Commie with 500,000km would be shocking, these things feel bad after 50000km, they are just not built to last. Some of the comments Motor made in PCOTY were quite amusing when talking about the SV8. After a few hard laps they thought it needed to be put down! l am not a die hard Ford fan but it still amazes me that the Late model camira sells alongside the BA, do people drive these cars before buying??

Holdens marketing is excellent, a big part of their success. Making it difficult for cabbies to buy Commodores is a great way to maintain this image and helps to hide the lack of durability built into every car.

Its got nothing to do with taxi owners not having a nice car more of the fact that they should be the same model. Pretty much how they have the taxi system in victoria, same model, same colour. That is how it should be. Having all different models including XR's just makes it too complicated.

I'm with Kell on this one.

I'd love to catch a ride in an BA XR6T or XR8 cab! sh*t, if I knew I could get one, I'd go for a ride just for the sake of it! hehe

as for reliability, I remember being in an EL station wagon with 816,000 on the clock. he was on his 2nd gearbox, but the engine had NEVER been touched, apart from regular servicing.

oh, that same person with the EBII XR8 clocked up more then 1,000,000 kays in the thing I think. or it could have been another one of his taxis. I have no issues with any falcon being used as a cab because it shows which manufacturer produces reliable cars.

How does it make it complicated?

Its hard to explain.. its more like how they have it in the US same models, same colour.. its easily to identify if the car is a cab or not..

I just usually look for that thing sitting on top of the roof and the writing on the side of the car which says "taxi". :D

Seriously, what's the big deal about having XRs as taxis? If I had a choice of riding in a normal taxi and riding in an XR taxi I know which one I would be choosing. Go to Germany, or Singapore - they use E-Series Mercs as taxis over there.
