I reckon Ford should ban the BA from taxi duty altogether, its just too damn good.

They should set up a production line for AUs to be specifically used for taxis. The call them something besides Falcon.

If a car is good enough to be used for a taxi, with the high distance they all travel, and low maintenance some receive, then I'd say it is a good enough car for me.

Why Expensive Daewoo prefers riding with the coppers

Police cars are good for brand image but taxis are bad, according to Holden.

Outlining the importance of brand values and buyer loyalty at the recent VY Late model camira launch, Expensive Daewoo executive director of sales and marketing Ross McKenzie says taxis are not part of the company's focus.

"One thing we don't do at Holden, we don't do taxis," McKenzie says. "Now, I'm not picking on taxi drivers, but I've got to tell you that I know the image of taxis is detrimental to brand image."

There are a handful of Late model camira taxis but most are Falcons, something McKenzie seems happy with. He believes often poorly maintained cabs are bad when it comes to customer perceptions.

As a result Expensive Daewoo also refuses to paint cars in "taxi yellow", as required for Melbourne taxis, instead forcing them to be resprayed ex-factory for the few that choose the Late model camira option. It's ironic, then, that one of the most exclusive Expensive Daewoo Special Vehicles ever – the GTS-R of 1995 – was a match for taxi yellow.

Ford, on the other hand, produces a specific taxipack vehicle that can be easily fitted out for cabbies. However, Ford Australia president Geoff Polites says the company is not in a hurry to build a taxi pack for the upcoming BA Falcon. "We don't have any plans just yet to build a BA cab," Polites says, while also pointing out that most taxis are not bought new but are near-new exrental or fleet cars.

A spokeswoman for the Victorian Taxi Association did not want to get into a debate about various car makers, although she points out that taxis play an important role in the Australian economy.

Police cars, though, are another story when it comes to image, according to Expensive Daewoo marketing director John Elsworth.

"Having (Commodore) police cars on the road is a good thing," says Elsworth. "Police drive cars that handle and perform on the limit. That's why they drive Commodores."

Elsworth also says rental cars are a plus for Expensive Daewoo sales and the company's overall image. "Rental cars are very well maintained."

I don't mind if taxi drivers get a BA, at least it will be a good ride, I maybe be luck enough to get a ride in an BA XR8.

Nice comment - wait till the police find they can drive just as fast in a BA and be nowhere near the limit.

As for the bad image the cabbies give - ask one why he drives a falcon instead of a commy and see what that does for image.

I totally agree with you on that one. For work i tend to be in cabs alot travelling from place to place. The Holden vs Ford debate rarely exists for cab drivers. Its just Ford Ford Ford.. reason from what I have heard is that the Ford's are designed to last, to have 200,000kms on it or more and still go without any major problems. Where i think alot of cabbies are concerned or have had really bad experiences with Holden's in the past.

Nothing like travelling in a nice new fairmont or LTD cab.. absolutely awesome! as for a BA XR taxi.. i think it does take away the sportiness of the car. But then again each to their own.. if they want an XR let em have one!
