excuse my ignorance... but if the ute gets traction and power down quicker and it is to do with the leaf spring set up and the extra weight that comes along with it.... why do the utes fair so badly down the quarter??? Is it just the 100kg extra weight that it lugs around??

I think you'll find that down the 1/4 mile with cars with 250rwkw's plus that the sedan has more traction than the ute. I know that when 100% was racing he had a 11.9 on slicks and 13.1 on street tyres with similar power to what I have. You could also ask Dean (XRDreaming), he has a ute with well over 300rwkw's and I think he has more problems with traction than I do.

It could be good to ask Peter from APS he has high powered utes and sedans in the "T", he could tell you from the prespective of having both. :kissmy:

Thanks geea...

I honestly thought/believed that the sedan could get traction down better then the ute... but I must be wrong... Hey peter... if you happen to stumble accross this thread, please enlighten us with your expertise :o

Just to clear up one misconception you have stated - the leaf spring solid axle is lighter than the IRS. The utes are heavier because they are running a half-chassis inplace of the sedan's pure monocoque chassis. This is to allow them to carry more weight. Remember they are derived from a commercial background. And that extra 100-150 kilos is what makes the utes a tad slower down the strip. Put an extra person in your sedan and check it's 400m times - you'll be surprised that it can rob you nearly half a sec.

And to clear up exactly what I said regarding better traction - it was for standard, unmodded cars. As geea has said some of the higher powered utes are having traction problems and that is because eventually the rear end will reach it's designed limitations which are slightly lower than for the IRS once you get into this area of very high power - playing with springs/shocks/tramp rods would overcome it.

Mate, anytime. :spoton:

Trust me guys, with big rwkw, the sedan definitely gets it down better than the ute. I cannot for the life of me even use first gear let alone get it off the line! Even if I just idle away and then feed it on, it still just lights up until I change into second and even then, that is nearly useless. I would say my ute was faster when it had less power - from a standstill only though. Once rolling, completely different story............ :w00t2:

I should have got an auto, and that is why I want an auto F6 sedan.

Geez mate hold on there - that is a pretty bad condemnation of your own driving. Better go wash your mouth out. :smilielol:

no need to clear that up... was very evident in your original post :smilielol:

Mate, I dont claim to know the technical details on the issue. What I do know is that my brother and I both have standard/unmodified XR6T's. His a sedan and mine a ute. Now having the opportunity to drive both cars, I personally find it easier to get traction down in the sedan :spit:

Turbo6.... F6 sedan :spit::msm: If only I could afford one :msm:
