Well, it's finally happening. The pay TV gods have smiled upon me and have blessed me with a Home Improvement Marathon on October 2nd. Now, what I want to do is be able to copy it so I can play it on dvd. I don't have a DVD burner, but have access to one.(I'm sure ms700 would like a copy anyway :) ) I do have a video capture card. Does anyone have any advice in regards to resolution/format/etc that will ensure I can copy this in the best possible quality so it can be watched over and over. Your help would be muchly appreciated.

Rob

Best compression I have found is DivX or XVid. Both of these give outstanding compression with minimal loss in quality. Easily fit 1.5 hours into 700 mb which is what I used to do before DVD. On the 4.7 Gb you can cut the compression down and get a good five hours on the DVD if you really want to.

Most good video software suites support those Codecs. For Audio I normally use mp3 at about 64 kb/s or even 32 if you don't need really high quality sound.

Good luck.

Divx is the better of the video compression technologies these days. Mp3 for audio.

320x240 @ 25fps resolution is the absolute minimum that you want to capture at. However it would be advisbale to kick it up to 30 fps. If you can sqeeze that bit extra out of your capture card kick it up to 640x480 @ 25+ fps.

Best not to use any propriertary formats that come with your capture card, otherwise there could be potential conversion problems furhter down the track.
