This morning I visited the Ford service department for another problem and the service manager asked me how's the car going, I replied good though the brakes are crap, he had a very surprised look on his face, I think he didn't believe me.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but I made some quick enquirys with Cebco brakes, they have a variety of options available for varying budgets. http://www.cebcobrakes.com.au/ The page is not updated yet but if you give them a call they can let you know whats availbale!! Also Brembo will be ready in a few weeks.

Scott52, since last we spoke re your DBA's I have gone into this a bit more.. Reliable guys in the braking game are telling me that the standard rotors on the falcons are made of "crap cast".Hence the warping problem when excessivly heated, Even the premium fronts on the XR's, though, bigger in dia, are ordinary! DBA, & most of the aftermarket rotors are much higher quality! I had this problem on my last AU11, & changed to Herrod brakes,( which, BTW aren't $3000) just the 2 piston front, 1 piston rear ( which are identical to the premiums on the XR's, except different composition of cast in the rotors, & superior pad material). The difference under sustained heavy braking was amazing!..Remembering that AU11's already had 2 piston fronts!

G'day Guys,

We had pushed production forward and now have stock for the BA front rotors DBA 504.

We also made these discs in a high performance/ track version by using a higher grade of iron similar to AP Racing or Alcon and heat treating them to resist distortion and cracking from continuous heat cycling. These are DBA 4504 (4000 series). Its basically the material spec we have been developing over the past few years for our sponsored track and rally cars.

Steve

dbasteve, I think I'm going to need more than just a new set of rotors to suit my style of driving. I wouldn't want to go and outlay money and replace my rotors to find out what a few people have been telling me that the standard calipers is true. Your input is appreciated it's great having manufactures representatives on this forum.

Chris,

The next option would be bigger rotors of course.

We make 13" rotors for the Falcon Brute from Mustang discs which are much more stable than the premium kit rotors. The other issue is calipers; To put a quality caliper on this stub axle support correctly you need to rotate the caliper to clear the upright. I am in the process of designing a bracket to fit a Brembo or AP Racing caliper. A quality road kit should not use wheel spacers and this is my aim.

I have been given a few XR wheels to play with including the BA 17"s.

We'll be doing 343mm and 355mm two piece discs later this year and we have prototypes for 330mm or 345mm rears. This is not a short term fix though.

John at Cebco uses our Mustang and flat discs in his kits.

Also, there are a few pad manufacturers racing to finish some quality pad options for this BA caliper too.

For what its worth; I think Ford have done a great job with this BA but as with all newbies there are a couple of small bugs to chase out.

Chrislak,

Don't forget that those if those AP's are racing calipers they dont come with piston seals and need to be cleaned out periodically. I'm sure they have a road caliper equivalent though.

There's been alot of talk about rotor probs but now there seems to be issues with the caliper - what's wrong with them? They look very similar to the twin piston sliders used on std VT VX VY Commodores. Alot of guys use these at the track (with 296mm rotors) on early commodores with really good pads with great results. Using a race type pad makes a massive difference and unless you are regularly competing on the track big brakes are a waste of time. It's not like they will save your life where the std one's wouldn't.

Get some DBA slotted rotors with good pads and you'll be laughing. I can't believe these calipers would be flexing much plus there's no knock off as you will get with four spots.

Ford should be supplying us with these new DBA rotors - do a deal with Ford DBA Steve - NOW!!!!!!!
