Guest deanclaxton Guests Posted 17/03/03 01:04 AM Share Posted 17/03/03 01:04 AM Seem's that a number of people have complained of brakes 'warping' when the brakes are used heavily for only a few stops. They apparently become relatively ineffective, and have a pulsing feel to them (yet they feel ok again when they cool?).I can understand why all the mags test the premium package when reviewing the car (and why Ford is supplying the car in that configuration for reviews) - Ford would obviously lose a LOT of points with the standard package. There are no complaints with the premium brakes in the reviews etc. Take Motor's PCOTY 2003 as an example - I'm sure the XR would not have come 3rd with standard brakes.... I have an XR6T on order, standard brakes, and am very concerned about the quality - seems they are really not up to the job for a performance vehicle?? I can only hope Ford will address this issue - seems the premium brakes should be standard. Why should we pay more for brakes that actually work effectively, or put another way, surely the standard brakes should be up to the task ? Guest mvec Guests Posted 17/03/03 03:17 AM Share Posted 17/03/03 03:17 AM I agree with you completely. Im a bit worried about the std brakes as well. But as long as you are not a track driver, you should be fine. But I'd like to join a club one day and go on tracks where I can really push the car to its limits. In regards to the motor mag, I thought it wasnt very fair how they used a premium brakes package to do the testing. Considering one of the high points mentioned was how the brakes never faded. I dont think Ive come across one review where brake fade has been mentioned which suggests to me that press cars are all fitted with the premium packages. Posted 17/03/03 06:28 AM Share Posted 17/03/03 06:28 AM I paid for a set of DBA Longlife Gold Drilled and Slotted rotors in the purchase price of the car. the cost is about $160 for each rotor. the rotors are not available until mid April but the part number is listed for the BA falcon. soon as they come in the dealer is going to fit them. a very straight forward job they tell me. all reports say the drilled and slotted DBA rotors are good, however they are not for competion use. if you check out www.dba.com.au you will get all the info you need. you can even download a pdf file with all the part numbers. good luck!Scott. I going to have to leave her at home and take out my 1971 V8 Falcon for now.I wasn't expecting the standard brakes to be as poor as this if I knew I would of paid the extra cash for premiums.Does any one know if the standard brakes are the same as the XT base model, I bet they are.Does any of you guys or gals know of good brake work shop in Sydney?Apart from this issue and a oil leak, I would'nt swop the car for anything, oh, maybe a M3.
