Miss Aly -the tint affects the radio becasue the ariel is on the back windscreen (the two brown lines running vertically up and down) hence the metalliuc type tints screwing with it, there is a non metallic tint that doesnt interfere with reception. Of course if you have a normal stick type arial than metallic tint wont affect it either way.

Dazza.

thanks Dazza! So I should ask for the non metallic to be put on the back window then? And the rest of the windows can be metallic tint?

I've had metallic tint in my past two turbo's with no FM reception issues at all...

They don't effect FM, only AM.

And 35% isn't dark at all...you can see straight through even at night.

The dealers normally put on 35%.

If you want darker you need to go illegal.

Well I have the darkest legal tint put on from the dealer and AM reception is shocking and FM gets a little fuzzy sometimes, no matter I would rather listen to the engine anyway, except when the footy is on.

Get your dealer to check it out then.

I get better radio reception than my wifes car which has an external aerial...

I agree with you on the engine

Some risk with going illegal - when a friend was having his car inspected at the Motor Registry, they tested the tint and found it darker than legal. He subsequently had to rip the side window tint off while there (apparently back is not a problem?) to register his car. He had driven it from another state on a short term registration permit so needed to register it then and there to drive away in it.

Hi Miss_Aly

If you want to stay legal, avoid all the drama of possible radio interference, not risk your insurance cover and have the highest heat reduction available, ask for a film called EMINM35 (Electro Magnetic Interference Non Metalised) it's distributed by MEP Films and I think Tint-A-Car uses it as well.

This film is made for cars like ours with on glass antennas. It has a heat rejection of 50% which is incredible considering the absence of metal to reject the heat.

Because the falcons' glass is a little darker than most factory tinted glass it comes up looking like it's one shade darker than legal. Many of our customers ask to have their cars tinted dark like mine. When I tell them it's legal they often don't believe me.

We charge $295 for this film as it is a premium film with a manufacturers Lifetime Warranty so this is the benchmark to be aiming for.

Some of our customers have had problems with FM radio reception after having the car tinted by the dealer in metal film. Dealers often use outside contractors to fit a lot of accessories and not all are qualified or experienced in the technology behind these films, this leads to the wrong film being applied in some cases and ultimately a dissatisfied customer so be warned. (This usually occurs if the FM station you are listening to doesn't have a strong signal).

Good luck

Regards

Big Al, I may be interested. I have the Factories darkest legal tint, but it's not dark enough and really does affect AM reception.

Can you post a pic of your car? I'd like to see just how dark it appears.

Thanks :spoton:
