aps Member 1,505 Member For: 21y 10m 26d Posted 16/09/04 01:20 AM Share Posted 16/09/04 01:20 AM Of course your ability to get one of the new Phase II kits installed at the moment will probably be quite limited...APS retailers will probably have existing stock of the old Phase II kits, which they have purchased (and paid for), and no-doubt will want (need) to move these on before they start to stock up on the new (cheaper) Phase II kits. The new APS Phase II product will start flowing through to dealers at the end of this month (Spiro has about 20 phase II systems on order) so not long to wait now.I'm not sure why CRS let the cat out of the bag so early with news of the new APS phase II system .................as you can see this was thread was started by a CRS customer not APS. I don't believe this will be much of a problem for the APS dealers as there are still many customers who may well prefer to have the larger fuel pump fitted with the new phase II system. It's simply another choice for the customer. PeterAPS

PeterAPS Peter have you guys been looking for what has been the culprit for the broken boxes? In other words what is the weakest link?Scotty
aps Member 1,505 Member For: 21y 10m 26d Posted 16/09/04 02:26 AM Share Posted 16/09/04 02:26 AM Suddenly, what has been holding me back from modifying my T, the Typhoon, does not have so much of a hold on me anymore. Still, another part of me is almost 100% convinced that APS and others will have something in mind for the Typhoon as well. Peter or George, care to share anything on this speculation to give us something to think about? Peter, when you confirm the new Phase III price, I will update the post in your section of the forum to reflect these changes. The new Phase II price has been updated, and the thread can be seen here:APS Power/Torque/Price numbersI will also update the comparison spreadsheet and upload it once Peter provides the new Phase III price. Safe and happy driving...Dr Z. DR Z, Well I'm glad to hear that you're starting to feel the hunger for some additional grunt and that the new phase II may well be the answer for your needs. No doubt we have big plans for the Typhoon though nothing that I can share with you at the moment.................suffice to say the APS phased system will deliver awesome bang for buck and we be a highly developed and tested system. I can now confirm the revised price structure of the APS phase III system which is $4664 installed and tuned including GST (on top of the initial phase II price of $4565 installed)................power and torque levels remain unaltered.................or a grand total of $9229 if phase II/ III parts are installed at the identical time. Thanks also in advance for taking the time to update the comparison spreadsheet................I will be interested to view this comparison when completed. Big question now is when do we get Phase IV.... Cheers Frank
Dr Z Member 378 Member For: 20y 11m 11d Posted 16/09/04 08:09 AM Share Posted 16/09/04 08:09 AM Updating my earler "bang for buck" comparison with the new Phase II and Phase III pricing...Quoted from this thread: APS Power/Torque/Price numbers..we see the following Torque differences..Ford BA Falcon XR6 Turbo stock (unmodified):Maximum Power: 240kW @ 5250rpm Maximum rwkW: 175-215kW Maximum Torque: 450Nm @ 2000-4500rpm Total Price: $45,085Ford BA Falcon XR6 Turbo with APS Phase I:Maximum Power: 300kW @ 5200rpmMaximum rwkW: 230-250kW Maximum Torque: 535Nm @ 4000rpm Total Price: $47,681 = $45,085 + $2,596Ford BA Falcon XR6 Turbo with APS Phase II:Maximum Power: 330kW @ 5500rpm Maximum rwkW: 260-280kW Maximum Torque: 603Nm @ 4300rpmTotal Price: $49,650 = $45,085 + $4,565Summing this up:1. $2,596 (Phase I) will get you 60kW max power and 85Nm max torque.2. Another $1,969 (upgrading from Phase I to Phase II) will get you EXTRA 30kW and 68Nm max torque.** Note also, that at this Phase II level you may want to upgrade valve springs for $880, and if you have an SSS auto, upgrade your auto transmission for $800, plus add a transmission oil cooler for another $400. Just for further comparison:Ford BA Falcon XR6 Turbo with APS Phase III:Maximum Power: 390kW @ 5600rpmMaximum rwkW: 320-340kW Maximum Torque: 706Nm @ 4500rpm Total Price: $54,314 = $45,085 + $9,2293. Another $4,664 (upgrading from Phase II to Phase III) will get you EXTRA 60kW and 103Nm max torque. In conclusion, on a marginal (the EXTRA paid or received) basis:APS Phase I:$2,596 / 60 = $43.27 per kW$2,596 / 85 = $30.54 per NmAPS Phase II:$1,969 / 30 = $65.63 per kW$1,969 / 68 = $28.96 per NmAPS Phase III:$4,664 / 60 = $77.73 per kW$4,664 / 103 = $45.28 per NmTo put these numbers in context, a stock (unmodified) XR6T:$45,085 / 240 = $187.85 per kW$45,085 / 450 = $100.19 per NmOr the F6 Typhoon, using a $56,000 estimated price:$56,000 / 270 = $207.41 per kW$56,000 / 550 = $101.82 per NmThese numbers indicate that APS kits are incredible "bang for buck" with the greatest marginal value in descending order coming from:1. Stock to Phase I.2. Phase I to Phase II.3. Phase II to Phase III.In conclusion, purely on power/torque/price numbers, the now lower priced Phase II has improved its "bang for buck" value considerably! Going directly from stock to APS Phase II now gives 90 extra kW and 153 extra Nm for only $4,565 compared to its earlier price. This means a "marginal" cost from Stock to APS Phase II of only $50.72 per kW and $29.84 per Nm. As Motor Magazine said about the APS Phase II in February 2004 when the price was $5,650 "Either way, at $5,650 fitted and fully tuned, you can’t grizzle about the bang for your buck. You gotta have it. You know it makes sense." Well, now its only $4,565...so a low 12 second XR6T on street tyres for only another $4,565...plus another $700 if you want a "street-legal" XR6T with an Engineering Certificate...what more could you want? Guest Simonxr6t Guests Posted 24/09/04 12:06 AM Share Posted 24/09/04 12:06 AM I guess this is more a question for Peter. When I was checking with the guys that installed my kit they advised me that the fuel pump may be a wise idea due to the fact that they prepare a XR6T for the production car series and have had 3 fuel pump failures during the year. This car also runs a unichip and is running under Phase 2 power level so why has the pump been deleted??CheersSimon

Also another point is that I have a Powerchip and very very happy with the power it has given me however ive been told its very restrictive? I think I just got to excited and didnt do my homework... Will this chip effect me if I go straight into to a stage II?

This tends to give the stock fuel pump a really hard time................not really surprising that the stock fuel pumps suffered loss of performance. In any event, racing a car, particularly circuit racing is very demanding on the engine and fuel system (frequent full throttle/high rpm conditions) so the fitment of a quality fuel pump is wise given the application. We utilise a much larger than stock fuel injector in the APS phase II system so there's no need for higher than stock fuel pressure, therefore the stock fuel pump is sufficient for phase II power. That said if you'd prefer to install either a larger or a higher quality fuel pump than the stock Ford component..............there's no harm done.
