I agree with casgeroth,

AMD performance is comparable to Intel...but its a lot cheaper. I am an AMD convert.

Aren't guys running over 4GHz now with the Uber Extreme P4's?

Im an AMD fanboy, no idea really why. Maybe the cheapness vs power ratio, who knows.

I have a Barton Cored (333FSB) Athlon 2500+ (1826Mhz) and Im really happy with it. I can run it out to 2090Mhz (equiv of 2900+) on my old board with the stock heatsink. There are guys well over the 2200Mhz mark with this chip. AMD overclock fairly well too.

A downside of the P4 from what I have read is the heat they generate and the power they use. The P4 mobo's need a second plug to cope with their 70+Watt loads!

High end AMDs are also pretty expensive. It's in the sub 2.7 rand that AMD are cheaper. I think.....

I'm very satisfied with my Athlon XP2400+. My only real bottleneck is my graphics card.

GeForce 4 Ti4200 128MB.

It will still play most of the latest games (haven't tried the Doom3 stress test yet), but I REALLY wanna get an ATI X800 XT ;)

There's a good $900+ to sink into my PC :spit:

I have a P4 2.4. I recently got hold of a Celeron 2.4 chip and put it in my system to see how it performed. Using benchmarking software (Sandra) I found it was only about 15-20% slower than the P4. I then overclocked it to 2.8G and there was very little difference in speed between the two chips. I’m not partial to AMD as I have fried one in the past.

main difference.

Celeron only for office apps etc (games generally hat thm).

Pentiums for everything and more.

I myself only use AMD processors. An Athlon XP 3000+ in Krashsmonster, a 2400+ in krashsbeast and most recently an athlon XP-M 2600+ in my laptop, KrashsLTdemon.
