Easy terms..

The latest Pentium processor is faster (by processing speed) than the latest celeron processor.

Pentium processors have a greater load capacity.

Celeron CPU has less cache memory than Pentium 4's do. A Celeron might have 128 kilobytes of L2 cache, while a Pentium 4 can have four times that. The amount of L2 cache memory can have a big effect on performance.

Clock speed - Intel manufactures the Pentium 4 chips to run at a higher clock speed than Celeron chips. The fastest Pentium 4 might be 60 percent faster than the fastest Celeron.

Bus speed - There are differences in the maximum bus speeds that the processors allow. Pentium 4s tend to be about 30 percent faster than Celerons.

Basically at the end of the day the Celeron is a less gruntier chip then the Pentium 4, it cant handle the amount of processes the Pentium 4 can do, and cant send information faster enough down to other devices via the bus.

For Performance go Pentium 4, anything else go Celeron ie email etc.

If you want 'bang-for-buck', get an AMD Athlon CPU.

e.g.

AMD Athlon XP 3200+ $282

Intel Pentium IV 3.2GHz $429

I find the AMD athlon XP faster than the Pentium 4.

The last 3 PC's I've built (for myself) have been AMD machines. I've found them to be a lot more reliable and of course better for overclocking. But this is sidetracking from the thread topic a bit. From the sound of it Falchoon has the option of buying either a Celeron or a Pentium.

It would depend on what you're going to use it for. If it's everyday surfing the net, email, some basic Word documents etc... the Celery will do the job, but if you want to start gaming and using it for heavier applications you will want the P4.
