Cro,Cro,Cro,Id love you on my side in a war

I used to smoke,marolbrough 60 cents a packet,viscount twin packs etc

It was the done thing, you were a poofta if you didnt smoke

Every body else could go and get rooted ,IM HERE!AND I SMOKE!!!

Ive said how I gave up in the how did you give up smoking thread.

If you can use a keyboard, then you know smoking is dumb!!

When I look at a smoker now .............................I think...........WTF,I used to do that,,It looks just so fcuking stupid, along with all the little habbits that go with it,flicking the ash in your style, point your head in the air to blow the smoke up ,*beep* in your gobb when hands full,so your eyes become squinted and watery, flick your butt out the window etc

A wise old man once told the old Latvian saying for a man smoking a pipe

"two wooden heads on the same stick"

So even back then they knew smoking was bad

As long as my arse points to the ground ,smokers will wanna smoke

But thank christ its changing

When smoking was banned near food here, all the smokers were up in arms,

now a few years down the track, all the eaterys are fuller, even smokers like to eat without passive smoking.

Grow up boys and girls,do your selves a favour and quit, your food tastes much better and you dont stink anymore

You say buses weren't an option but then say it would take an extra hour on the bus.

That is true, but then my daily commute would have been 6 hours / day, and on-top of working 14 hours, it just wasn't feasible.

Smoking is bad, smoking kills (yes.....its medically proven). People who suffer from smoking related illnesses in this country draw valuable medical funds from those with sicknesses that cant be attributed to individual stupidity.

We are not trying to disprove that smoking kills. We know it kills, and for those that decide to smoke, that is their choice. We also know that passive smoking is also harmful to others

However the whole point of this topic was to debate whether smoking should be banned OUTDOORS. At this point in time, I know of no statistics which differentiate between passive smoking indoors and passive smoking in the open air.

Sure, in the open, if someone deliberately blows smoke into your mouth then this is probably equivalent to sitting in an enclosed area, however what is the impact if you happen to be sitting 15 feet away from a smoker outside ?, probably no different from inhaling car fumes from passing traffic.

Look at Jim Bacon, look at Yul Brynner and learn a lesson and stop trying to justify this pervasive (is it in your dictionary ?) and filthy addiction.

I'm not trying to justify this 'addiction'. I just disagree with the law banning people from smoking in public (albeit at present limited to outside seating areas at cafes)

Keep your points on toipc and stop being so personal and yes......this is out of control and should be locked off

There is no intention to be personal, just expressing my opinions. As for straying off topic, I was just trying to provide an analogy between how damging dirty air can be (smoking is banned on the London Underground), so the dirty air is coming from somewhere else, more than likely car / bus fumes

Remember that Warringah Council tried doing the same thing for Dee Why, but this got kicked out, because of the same type of analogy, ie cars passing the outdooor seating areas and customer's enduring the fumes.

From a different perspective, but still on topic, will councils start banning smokers from walking down the sidewalk, where there happens to be non-smoking seating areas ?. This is no different from smokers sitting at tables outside.

Note - The smoking ban on beaches which has been adopted by numerous councils, was not due to the concern of passive smoking, but more on the fact of smoker's burying their butts in the sand for children to dig up later - and that ban I do agree with.

Be interesting to see how things develop in 6 months time.

and I'm happy that some provision should be made to allow you to partake of your (as misguided as it may be) enjoyment of a *beep*. In an environment where only your own ilk are effected.

I think Plonky may have an issue with this one.

Does this mean I now have to believe in the religious readings of the majority because in a Democracy the majority rules and the rest MUST follow???????

No, because under the Constitution, we do not have an official religion. If we did, then yes you would. But what has that got to do with smoking anyway :crybaby:

yES YOU ARE RIGHT, BUT WE CAN LEAVE THE CONSTITUTION out of it, because it says nothing about smoking either.

What I was getting at is the way people inthis thread want to use the MAJORITY thingy. Somehow I don't think anyone should or could be forced into an opinion based on the MAJORITY, and if you don't agree you are an outcast, how is this freedom?
