I used to use the London underground to commute to work. Every time I blew my nose, it was just black 'snot' - A direct result of the dirty atmosphere I had to commute in. Do I ban the London Underground for putting all this crap into my lungs ?"Ummmm........you voluntarily got onto a train to travel to/from work. Although it may have been difficult, you did have alternatives to catching the Tube.No-one voluntarily passively smokes. If people really want to smoke in public, in or near restaurants, pubs etc then they should be provided with smokers rooms (like Bangkok or Singapore airports) where they can lock themselves in and are annexed from the healthier non-smokers. I think the whole point is do what you want toy yourself, but when what you do affects others then some form of govt. should step in to stop it. Anyone who sits next to me at a restaurant will be politely asked to put it out as it disturbs me. If they dont, I will insert it rectally for them. Its very funny to see what lengths smokers go to to justify their habits

Dont you think as humans with rights these people should be allowed to do as they please outside, away from you ???You guys have a choice, sit inside or sit outside. As for smokers, doesnt matter if there is rain, hail, or shine, the only option in OUTSIDE ......... like FKEN animals !!! What happened to give some take some, you guys are trying to take away the right of people who want to smoke......!!Personally, as ive mentioned before, I dont smoke often, but when I go out I tend to light one up......some people might find it to be stress relief.......if you ask me, all this law is doing is taking away the right of the individual, and it wont stop here. I wonder how long before we all get stripped of our turbos because the majority feels that speed kills and there is no need for a turbo charger in a car !!!!! If you sit outdoors, you voluntatily choose to do so....you do have alternatives to sitting outdoors !!!All you "MAJORITY" act as if you dont have a choice, that's crap, you do have a choice you just prefer to play ignorant and not accept the alternative choice !! Although it may have been difficult, you did have alternatives to catching the Tube. You're making assumptions. I did not have alternatives to catching the tube. To be more precise, I had to commute from south of London to North of London, as follows -Bus to train station at WokingTrain to South London (WaterLoo)2 tube trains to North London (WaterLoo / Oxford Circus / Kings Cross)Train to St AlbansTaxi to the Office.Trip took on average 2 hrs each way.Why ?, well I was banned from driving, so this was not an option. Buses were not an option, with the exception of replacing the tube, but this would have probably added another hour to the journey. And before you make another assumption as to why I was banned from driving, it was on medical grounds. I sufffer from petit mal....And if you don't know what that is, I suggest you look it up in the dictionary.

Actually, the laws regarding that have gone the other way. I'm assuming you are referring to drinking alcohol. It was previously (to about 197?) the law that alcohol could only be consumed in private or licensed premises and that the consumption of alcohol, or even the display of containers of alcoholic beverages, was banned in public places. This has now changed and it is only in some designated public areas that the consumption of alcohol is now banned. That has come about because (today) the majority of people are not offended by such an act. Apparently in the past the majority of people did not want to see consumption of alcohol in public places - maybe the politicians were all Presbyterians or something eh? Well that won't happen as long as we live in a democracy. I suggest that if you are unhappy living in our democratic society where the majority will prevails then YOU should move elsewhere and take your smoking habit with you.The thing is WE DID KICK UP A STINK ABOUT IT - the govt. listened, and we got our way. You are now a social outcast if you are a smoker, and the majority of us just don't want you near us. Power in numbers eh?But I have never said that there should be NO place for smokers. I do accept that you smoke and I'm happy that some provision should be made to allow you to partake of your (as misguided as it may be) enjoyment of a *beep*. In an environment where only your own ilk are effected.

I am not part of the minority like you claim, but part of the majority, like you, as I have already declared that I am an ex-smoker. I apologise. With your vehement defense of the smokers' rights I missed that point.

I think you've said it the best except for one thing. The outdoor area's are DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA's.If you don't want to be exposed to the smoke DONT SIT OUTSIDE.If you do want to sit out side, then don't whinge about people smoking next to you cause IT IS A SMOKING AREA.Without the laws in place for not being allowed to smoke indoors, there would be no outdoor cafe's/resteraunts.The people that complained about others smoking indoors got these laws put through. I actually agree with these laws.So the smokers were sent outside. Where it does not effect the people inside. And now non-smokers who think it's a good idea to sit outside for whatever reason are whinging when they have NO RIGHT TO because they are sitting in a smoking area. Only problem you poor smokers have is that the majority of us are FOLLOWING YOU AROUND and TAKING OVER YOUR DESIGNATED AREAS and then having you banned from them as well. You poor b@stards can't win - if it isn't bad enough that you are killing yourselves by smoking, and not doing it cheaply I might add, but to cap it off you then have the rest of us non-smoking whingers making your (shortened) life miserable in the process.
