I recently took my XR6T to a track day at Pukekohe in NZ and had exactly the same problem with my (standard) brakes. Two reasonably hot laps and they were stuffed - major shuddering through the wheel and severely limited capacity for actually slowing the thing down. Once they cooled down things returned to normal but it was quite a disappointment when the rest of the car performed so well.

Our day consisted of a series of 5 lap races as well as several quarter mile runs. My best quarter mile was 14.3 which put me second on the day. A twin-turbo RX7 did 14.1 without trying too hard, although I did beat a VXII SS by over a car length!

The races were a lot of fun! Obviously I wasn't going all out (having no insurance cover on the track) so no aggressive passing near any corners etc, but it was great reeling in (and passing) other cars on the back straight. I hit 200 km/h most laps and it was still pulling... but I had to button off early with those crazy brakes. My best lap time was 1min 18sec. I believe the V8 Supercars do it in around 60 seconds.

Sounds awesome. What was the cost to take it on the track?

It's normally $150, but cheaper if you are in a group. If your thinking about going let me know. I'll go again soon, once I know what's happening with my brakes

Is there anything that can be done about insurance?

I'd hate to loose it into a wall and find its not covered...

You could probably get insurance, but I would say it would be very expensive!

Eastern Creek is pretty open actually, and if your going to come off into a wall, then your probably not the type of person that should be driving your car there anyway (on Track Days that is). Nothing against you personally, I would not like to be driving on the track with someone that is going to be "racing" around the track

The track days are normally pretty good, and what makes them good is that there are few people trying to "prove" how good their cars are to someone else.

If you are much faster than someone else, then most people will see you coming and pull right over and let you pass.

If you take it easy you wont need insurance. I've been quite a few times, and never once even come close to coming of the track.

You should come out and have a look at what happens next time it's on, I'm sure you see what I mean then :)

I might take you up on that :)

I just used the wall thing as an example, there are a lot of other things that can happen. I will check out the insurance thing just in case.
