Im surprised and yet not surprised that J.Howard is back. The economy is going v.well, unemployment is low, inflation low, interest rates low. that's why he won.

Housing affordability is sh*t though, at all-time lows apparently.

Labor's management team is crap at marketing, there are several issues they could have hammered him on, but didnt.

Whitless is Latham's hero

Typical....these idiots think Whitlam was the great reformer when he was in fact the great destroyer

Funnily enough, the electorate also have remembered, hence the slap in the face to Latham and 'the human sleeping pill' Crean !

The way I see it, at the moment things in Australia are reasonably good. There is always some things that people would like done differently but generally we are in good shape. If its not broken why change it. I think the poles showed it close cause people were thinking they needed a change but when it came to the crunch they were happy with what they have and didn't want to risk losing it. Labor may or maynot have done the same or a better job. We'll never know. At some stage in the future the Liberals will do things that alot of people disagree with or think aren't benefitting them and they will get voted out. At the moment though things in the land of Oz are pretty good.

sh*t most of us have $50k cars so they can't be that bad.

Yeah, things in Australia are great at the moment... as long as you don't need to see a doctor... or want to go to university.

My personal favourite of the whole weekend was the comment by the losing Greens senate candidate in the ACT, Kerrie Tucker.

She said that the fact that the Libs/Nats will now have a majority in the senate is a sad day for democracy in Australia. Guess what stupid ? Its a great day for democracy in Australia because:

(a) People got to vote

(b) Whatever the result democracy worked because the makeup of Reps/Senate is determined by the democratic process I.e voting.

Just because the silly woman missed out the whole democratic process is called into question, or just when it works against you ?

The silent majority has spoken in this election. Good or bad (and I think its great personally) we got the Govt we voted for in a clear enough majority for them to be able to govern as per their policies, and not be interfered with by a couple of loose lefties and single issue parties in the Senate.

Either way the result was very clear. If Labor had won I would have hoped the majority was just as clear so they could implement what their supporters voted for.

Exactly - regardless of which party is in power at least they will be able to function as a government without do-gooders bouncing legislation around for years just to keep themselves occupied.

Trent.

Let's just hope they don't have to rely on Family First in the Senate. High powered vehicles roaming the streets can't be very family-friendly can it? Heaven knows what other crap they will try and tie in with the family theme

The federal Government doesnt have the 'direct' power, under the Constitution, to legislate against high powered vehicles, and they wont bother, its a state issue
