Remember that 'social justice' or social engineering' costs money and that money is the taxpayers money.

It is not the Government's money, it is our money. Ultimately we are voting for the people that do the best job with our money.

If voting for the Government means that as individuals we can continue to live the lifestyle that we have then vote for them.

If voting for the Opposition means that OUR money is being spent on things that are important to us (such free everything and a permanent crutch for those that refuse to walk) then vote for the them.

The GST may be seen but Liberals didn't abolish a lot of the old taxes. So on many items we are paying tax on top of tax.

Where do you think this surplus has come from? We are more taxed than ever.

I have read all the posts on this thread fully, which is about a first (except for the GT basher ones ). And it's good to see healthy debate and expression of opinions, and how passionate we are about this great country and how it should be run

Somehow having Abbot and Costello running this country (which it will be in the not too distant future) kind of sums it up for me....is there some kind of hidden, sublime cosmic (comic) warning here.

I have been a Labour voter all my life, if I win a big lotto jackpot or some unknown long lost billionaire relative leaves me heaps then I'll vote Liberal. Although the 'new' Labour is not the working mans' party it once was it is still the better option if you have a social concience, and want some semblance of a fair go for all.

Let us not forget that a whole lot of things are incredibly cheaper since the abolition of a multitude of taxes and replaced with a flat 10% GST.

Have a look at your grocery bill and see how much GST you pay.....you will realise that the tax can now be seen.

Plonky is right. If you consider that a lot of the stuff in your trolley at the Supermarket ( commodities) used to attract a Wholesale tax rate of 22% , with GST of 10% we were somewhat better off. That is until the ugly sisters of Woolworts Ltd and Coles Myer Ltd went the sneak in upping retail prices over time to there previous levels and pocketing the difference.

Australia has the most concentrated retail trade on the planet and the key protagonists know it . ing bully boys the both of em.

Whilst ranting on this thread ,who is going to do the honourable thing with income tax and stop punishing hard earned success and rewarding the growing number of malingerers in society. Flat rate tax for everyone me thinks is proportionally fair reward for effort At least Joh had one good idea
