High powered vehicles roaming the streets can't be very family-friendly can it? Heaven knows what other crap they will try and tie in with the family theme The federal Government doesnt have the 'direct' power, under the Constitution, to legislate against high powered vehicles, and they wont bother, its a state issue Of course they do - it's called the Australian Design Rules and they can make a new rule encompassing anything they like.In 1972 they simply told the car companies that if the power war continued they wouldn't buy any more cars from them. All car companies like govt contracts so ...

There are more means than direct power too - taxes, imports, interstate trade to name a few. Lawyers can get very creative if needs be.Anyway, the main point was, I think we could end up with some very bad policy in the next 3 years if the government has to rely on the votes of Family First in the Senate to get things through. Disrespecting the geneva convention and denying equitable healthcare and seondary/tertiary education while being the highest taxed nation in the first world just to save themselves in the short term on their mortgage.Personally I filled out all 78 on the senate ticket and took great fun in placing them Liberals/Nationals last, even Fred Nile got in ahead of them! The GST which funds are distributed to the states for use in areas such as health. Labour in NSW promised to half waiting lists in their last election. Now some time on they are probably double what they were before.

The GST which funds are distributed to the states for use in areas such as health. Labour in NSW promised to half waiting lists in their last election. Now some time on they are probably double what they were before. I was talking more on the grand scale of Medicare and national distribution of funding rather than a state level, though I find it strange that people seem to forget how Messers Howard and Co seem to threaten to block supply to the states if they don't do what the government wants, and jump up and down and call it a communist labor conspiracy and it's all the left's fault...Pahh If the health system is so equitable, why do I have to wait 2 weeks on for a checkup with my local doctor (I refuse private healthcare) while someone with private can get in practically immediately? Why are there huge waiting lists and 4 and 5 hours waits in PUBLIC emergency wards, but private hospitals (with their added help from the government) are running at huge profits? Also, don't get me started on Carr, he is as far removed from the Labor party as you can get, he is nothing but a mealy mouthed economist sycophant that at a best rate would be a secretary for the liberal party. He, like almost all leaders of the Labor Party (State and Federal) since the split with Chifely and the Moral Rearmament Rats have all be traitors to the real ideals of labour...
