The colour ICC and tweeters in the A pillars are the best things about premium sound.

What size speakers com from factory? And I thought I read that to replace the 8" sub with a better one I'd need to order it in from o/s as no one imports them into Oz. Would that sound right? Even still, if it is fitted as poorly as the factory one, it is still going to buzz and vibrate anyway. Thanks for your replies!I will run a search shortly for other threads, but what are people's preferences for after-market speakers? I don't want the best sound outthere, just better than what I have.

Before I got the T I was a passenger in a BA XR6 fitted with premium sound. It sounded so Cr@p I took it upon myself to play around with the setting to get some decent sound out of it. The first thing I noticed it sounded much better with DSP and CD compression off. In the end it sounded much the same as the AU premium sound, but didn’t seem to have as much Base. Phido Member 58 Member For: 21y 28d Posted 02/09/04 01:15 AM Share Posted 02/09/04 01:15 AM There is something definately diffrent in the BA premium sound (atleast in the XR's and G220 I've been in). It seems to lack bass, and sound a bit flat. Most disapointing as the EL Ghia sounded fantastic even against european super luxury cars of its day. With fantastic sound. Might be diffrent speakers, diffrent amp, diffrent head unit, diffrent BA accustics, diffrent mounting positions. But it definately doesn't sound as good. Ford should upgrade the system. I would be tempted to add another sub on the parcel shelf, and a higher powered sub, and look at upgrading the regular mid range speakers. The marketing potential for a Factory system with two subs is huge, it would fill out the bass a bit more for minimal cost. These days most CD pickups sound extremely good with very low distortion, its usually the amps, speakers that let the side down.

Hazey Member 234 Member For: 21y 3m 20d Posted 02/09/04 01:47 AM Share Posted 02/09/04 01:47 AM Correct me if I'm wrong but the Premium sound optioned on a XR is 150WMy old man has a 1998 Fairlane by Tickford and this came with a Premium 250 Watt 9 speaker audio system. Now comparing my aftermarket system in my Pulsar SSS (which just consits of 4Ch Amp powering front 220W Splits and a 12" Boxed Sub) with my dads in the fairlane I would have to say they are pretty on par, just my base is a alot more punchier and more clearer at higher volums.I am just worried when I get the Premo Sound in my new XR (150W) that I will be a bit dissapointed. I do have the Luxury pack that has the Fairmont Ghia sound which is 11 speakers and 260w (from memory. It sounds great for a stock system. While I do not profess to being a expert in car audio, I think Ford has done a great job. Unless you buy a M3 or similar with a Bose or Harmon Kardon system, you will always find that there will be a comprimise of quality v price. The only thing I would like is a MP3 CD player.....Come on Ford, make the ICC do MP3's....please
Hazey Member 234 Member For: 21y 3m 20d Posted 02/09/04 02:23 AM Share Posted 02/09/04 02:23 AM Just checked the ford website and Premium Sound in the XR is the same as the Fairmont Ghia and Fairlanes, LTS's etc.150W...only 50W more than what you get in an XT, I know you get amp and sub but still. So it seems the Premium sound pre BA was alot better, ie 250W, l(ike my dads fairlane)Way to go ford !!
