My T is idling roughly on a cold start and does not rev smoothly to 1500rpm. :spoton:

Initially, I thought it was an exhaust leak or maybe the turbo is loose on the exhaust manifold.

After driving about 30km, the car drives a lot smoother which indicates to me that there is no exhaust leak. :o

And to the next cold start - back to square one. :gooff:

I did some searches on the forum, and there appears to be many posts relating to issues with the VCT soloneid. Do my symptons seem consistent with this? :o

Thanks in advance for any advice that you folks may have. :gooff:

Car has now done 39,000km, is auto and is a Feb '03 build. The car is off to the dealer on Tue to resolve this.

Mine has been doing something simialr.....

When I start it cold, it initally idles at 2,000rpm then drops down to 750rpm after 5secs and runs rough (like its running on four or five cylinders) and the check engine lights comes on. Once you rev it past 1,500rpm it runs smoother, but it idles like a b*tch

I figured cuz the check engine light was on, the ECU should have registered a fault :k24t:

I took it to the dealer and he said that the ECU registered 1 fault which was the "over-rev code" he then said "we've cleared the ECU and you should be right to go".

I was like WTF???? They didn't even bother to do any further diagnostic work.

And the car did it again the next morning :beerchug:

Has anybody experienced anything similar??

Benny

Dealer reports a broken engine mount, possible faulty ignition coils and has also reflashed the ECU.

Will report back tomorrow when I pick up the car. Dealer has been very supportive thus far.

Benny - Sorry to hear your pain dude, my car is not over reving on startup - just vibrating which is no doubt due to the broken engine mount. Suggest either the VCT soloneid or the throttle body (per Scotty) are good places to start. Try another dealer???

Good luck and report back when you find out what the problem is.

Mine has just started to do something very similar. Every now and then when I start it up first thing in the morning, back out of the drive way and just as I hit the road the rev's go ape sh*t (I.e. large variation in rev's and very rough idle). It feel like it almost stalls then the revs go up and the same happens repeatedly. I turn the car off and then restart and it's all good.

Very strange. Will be ringing the dealler tomorrow.

Mine is fine on start up. Its just when its warm it idles very rough and occasionally stalls, very embarrasing at the lights. Ford re flashed the ecu a few times but it did nothing. Back to the dealer......... again.
