The other thing is sometimes your phone especially if is a telstra white phone or any phone that has memory can draw voltage to recharge internal battery when that happens it can disconnect your internet.

It's a cordless phone actually, think it might be Uniden brand.

Also if you have Call Waiting activated it causes your connection to drop out. This is because call waiting is an exchange based function, your phone doesn't have to be plugged in for it to affect your internet connection. But what stang said is true turue true.

CW is definitely not activated, that much I do know.

I was with Optusnet Dialup. Best ISP for dialup IMO. Now I'm with Optusnet DSL, 512/128 12Gb/month for $70.

EDIT: -carty I'm impressed. I don't even go close to 5Gb/month with DSL

If you are having problems on Cable, Call up the provider as it will not be telephone related.

If you have xSDL and are having problems, things like Fax machines, burgler alarms and too many telephones cause problems. Make sure you also have a ADSL line filter as well.

If you keep getting dropouts call the ISP

Don't have any of that, just a regular phone line which the computer shares. I do have a ADSL line filter installed as well, came as a package with the ADSL modem from TPG but I read that you need a different ADSL line filter for cordless phones?

Try unplugging your phone next time you are on the net, to see if it still drops out. That way you know if it is phone related.

I don't believe there is a different line filter for cordless phones, however depending on the brand you may experience difficulties. I had one filter which wasn't effective when used with my Telstra cordless, but fine with my standard Telstra rental unit. Buying a new line filter sorted out all my problems

$64.95/month, 512/256, unlmited downloads, but speed restrictions may apply after 12GB in a month

I'm on the 512/128 unlimited TPG plan, $89.95/m. It is great. I download a LOT so no shaping and no limits are the way for me.

Ross, I just read that you are using the freebie usb modem. They suck, I recommend a decent ethernet modem for sure. I would go for this one.

It has a good firewall, much better than USB. It's also the one I'm using.
